Fact checking Trump is pointless. The people who don’t like him know every word out of his mouth is either a lie or a personal attack. The people who like him either don’t care or won’t believe you.

Fact checking Biden at that debate is pointless because everyone on both sides is going to care about how he lost his poise and fumbled so many words.

A fraction of undecided voters may decide the next election, and they might be weighing whether they care more about Biden’s age or Trump’s lies. I think fact checking could matter to those people too. No one is swaying Trump voters.

This liner of reasoning is useless. People have been repeating it for 6 years and the inky thing it does is promote apathy in the undecided and convince cultists that they’re right

it’s not just facts. If Trump suddenly only said things that were true between now and polling day - but didnt change any of his policy positions- would you vote for him?

I’m pretty sure Biden didn’t beat Medicare.

Biden pulled a Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Instead of declaring that he would not run for reelection early on, we now find ourselves in a situation where the end of American democracy is not only possible but probable.

EDIT: Downvote away but if you think a Trump win isn’t the end of American democracy, then you are delusional.

I think its only a RBG situation if Biden dies soon.

It’s more of a Diane Feinstein situation, where everyone can see the dementia progressing, but everyone around them has a vested interest in keeping the status quo.

So most of Trump’s are just outright lies, while most of Biden’s are things like “Well it’s true it happened but it’s hard to know if it’s because of him,” or “It’s true Trump said that a bunch of times but he hasn’t been saying that lately.”

They need a format that breaks the debate up into sections and actually includes fact checking, and a cross examination after each section. Have a team scrambling to find the records, studies, video clips and other evidence that they can bring up. Someone who is mostly honest gets lay ups and affirmation. Someone who lies constantly gets called out and put on the defensive.

Wouldn’t happen of course. Even if the hosts were down to have someone take on a more adversarial role, Trump would never agree to something that actually holds him accountable for spewing nothing but bullshit. It’s his entire strategy, if he can’t sell snake oil he has nothing to sell at all.

I really hope this article isn’t giving Biden the credit that Greg Abbott earned.
