Explanation: General Tso was a military commander in the Late Qing Dynasty. In the US, there is a dish called “General Tso’s chicken” that was named after this military commander, but is otherwise unrelated. But it’s fun to think of a military commander cooking while the enemy is at the gates!
He lost the battle and was killed in action … because his troops were so distracted and preoccupied by this delicious new dish that he had made.

You just reminded me of ye olde flash animation parodying Mambo No 5 called Combo No 5 with kinda racist caricatures of a Chinese food shop staff listing off all their dishes, which included General Tso’s chicken - the first time I’d ever heard of such a thing.
General Tso’s chicken was first created in Taiwan, iirc.
