Just because you’re aro or aroace doesn’t mean you don’t understand heartache and loss. When we empathize with fictional characters, is it because we’ve been through exactly what they’ve been through? Doubtful, because then fantasy wouldn’t exist. But we’ve had similar emotions, so it resonates.

I don’t really see why songs would be any different.

My mother’s policy was that the first time we do something wrong, talk with us, help us learn why it was wrong and how we should have acted. If we do it again even with that knowledge, punish us.

I feel like that would apply here, too, even if you don’t see leaving them with the consequences as actively punishing them. But as a kid it’s easy to get in over your head before you learn your own limits, and you’re not born with the knowledge of how to bail yourself out. I think they deserve a grace period.

I think CAD is kind of a fascinating trainwreck in how it stumbled down the gimmick-comic-to-dramedy pipeline. Loss is one symptom of that, but god, there’s so much more, and “it’s bad because a comedy decided to do a serious episode!!” doesn’t cover it.
