Do you know what number model it is? I tried using an old 2B but it was too slow and doesn’t have hardware decoding as far as I can tell. I’ve heard you need around 4B for media playback, but the price is not so great for a simple use like this. Stick PCs seemed to have some cheaper options, including hardware decoding, with the advantage of plugging straight into the HDMI port

Ok, I’ve been checking out some older ones for half the price (possibly used as well), the main requirement I’ve been checking is just hardware decoding, with a light weight Linux setup I think it should be sufficient.
The remote is worth considering, I might look into Bluetooth or RF based approaches as they are a bit more flexible than IR with positioning. Or even phone app based methods are possible
Thanks for the suggestions anyway ;)
I don’t get the complaining, sure some of the comics are only mildly amusing, but on the internet if something is not sufficiently amusing you can just go to the next thing, I don’t get the whining

Meh, it’s just another planted story in the media for a distraction & to create a fake image, and y’all are eating it up. The guy wears a diaper, stinks so bad to make people retch and is a pedophile

Hopefully the Streisand effect has a bigger impact here than their (attempted) ban. The ban itself may infact be illegal, as mentioned later in the article

4·6 days agoI get what you’re saying in general, but I’m not sure why Bush Sr gets put in the same category. Sure there was a recession and scandal or two, but these were pretty minor overall, and it was followed soon after by one of the most successful economic periods in US history, it’s hard to argue his presidency was a disaster, and in the same context as Bush Jr and Trump
Definitely agree, however if the client then ends up depending on AI for their plans and decisions you may end up with these models marking their own homework so to speak. You’ll get a totally unimaginative and generic product out the other end, if they manage to make a product at all that is

7·11 days agoDefinitely risks of enshittification if it grows more popular. The open web is decentralised, but that managed to get taken over by shitty walled gardens, and it’s possible similar things could happen. Or difficult to control spam like with email, where it becomes much harder to run independent/smaller hosts, and the larger players end up making the rules to suit themselves

World News@lemmy.ml•Trump’s top general is ‘looking for an off-ramp’ from Iran war as US military options remain limited, sources say
2·13 days agoTrue, but one reason they don’t is that Iran decided, well how about we just take control of the strait and charge tolls, and the US/Israel is now shocked Pikachu face. Which was a deterrent before, but they kind of got forced into acting on their deterrents. So stopping now leaves Iran in a stronger position and US the obvious losers.
Their other options? Well it’s a bit of a shit sandwich, but at the moment they’re just in denial until they one day give up and eat it. Or turn it into another forever war like Afghanistan just out of denial they are in a shitty losing position

Funny how every time this happens its someone trying to sell AI. The coincidence is a bit too much to take this seriously as oops I just wanted to book a gym class

Ok interesting it looks like it does do 1080p H264 hardware decoding https://cdn-shop.adafruit.com/pdfs/raspberrypi2modelb.pdf
Pretty sure I tested mine on video playback and it struggled (quite badly), but I didn’t check the playback format, maybe if you stick to the right codec then it works.
