Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What movie feels impossible to watch without captions?English
11·3 months agoSometimes there are snippets in dialogue I’m not even sure you are supposed to hear them but you can still read them in the subtitles.
This is the big one for me. If I hear a character mumbling but the subtitles say “[incoherent mumbling]” then I don’t worry about it. But if i hear a character mumbling and the subtitles actually show me what they’re saying, I know the audience was supposed to have understood it.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats something new thats actually good?English
3·3 months agoIn Graphene’s phone app, you can go to Settings -> Blocked Numbers, and enable “Numbers not in Contacts”. That will send any call from numbers you don’t have saved directly to voicemail. I still get the occasional voicemail message that’s just 2 seconds of silence (they didn’t hang up in time) but it stopped all spam calls for me.

9·4 months agoPantheon. It only has 2 seasons, has a definitive ending, and is currently on Netflix.
EDIT: Also, have you already watched Cyberpunk: Edgerunners?

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•When should I stop watching the Mandalorian?English
9·9 months agoIf you don’t actually care about continuity then this may not matter to you, but be aware that season 2 ends with a solid ending for the series. Then The Book of Boba Fett came out and was doing so poorly they shoved the season 3 premiere of Mandalorian as one of the episodes of Boba Fett. So if you went from the s2 finale of Mandalorian to the first episode of s3 of Mandalorian you’ll be confused about how many things changed.
Also, season 3 of Mandalorian is when things get silly, like the Jack Black episode and the Pirate King episode.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What’s the Best Lemmy Client App or API? Seeking Recommendations!English
4·11 months agoI recently moved to Summit on android and have been very happy with it. It’s extremely customizable so I can configure it exactly as I wanted.
I used to use Infinity for reddit and someone forked it to replace all reddit references with lemmy references (called it Eternity). I loved that one but the dev kinda disappeared and abandoned it. I was able to configure Summit to be basically the same as Eternity, which I couldn’t really replicate in any of the other app choices.
If you enjoyed Kill The Crows, I highly recommend Akane. It’s the same basic gameplay loop (one map area, single hit enemies, every 50 enemies is a boss fight) but Akane has a cyberpunk aesthetic. I don’t understand how these two games were made by different developers given the similarities.
It works beautifully on the deck, it’s primarily how I play this game. I did rebind some controls though. It had reloading the gun set to one of the face buttons, which means you’d need to let go of the joystick to reload. I remapped the reload button to RB (R1) and it’s much better.

3·1 year agoYou’re thinking of Predator: Killer of Killers, which will be an animated movie on Hulu by the same director. Not saying it’ll be any better, but it’s a different thing.
Sweet Caroline. It’s impossible for the audience to resist shouting “BOP BOP BAAAAA” during that song.
Also, I think I’ve only heard that song during karaoke. I never hear it anywhere else…

If you’re new, I definitely recommend checking out https://lemmyverse.net/communities for finding new communities to subscribe to, rather than just browsing “all”. There are a lot of weird communities out there when you just browse “all”…

5·1 year agoHave you tried using the Mullvad Browser then? It’s literally just the Tor Browser with the Tor parts removed. So it has all the security and anti-fingerprinting stuff but doesn’t connect to the Tor network.
Unless I misunderstood and you’re still connecting to the Tor network…

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Spam Call Screening that doesn't "phone home"?English
21·1 year agoSpamBlocker on fdroid can block any numbers not saved to your address book. It can even make exceptions for any repeated numbers that aren’t in your contacts but call multiple times within some time period (5min, 30min, whatever). And it can temporarily whitelist a number you dialed recently in case you’re expecting a call-back.
It also has the ability to download spam phone number databases from the internet if you want, but to be honest, I tried setting up that feature and couldn’t figure it out. So while it can use a 3rd party, it isn’t required.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Any one know what happened to Raccoon For Lemmy?English
3·2 years agoThe dev for Raccoon also had a Lemmy community to announce updates and things (he also deleted that community). Before he deleted it, he said that post about markdown support was the last straw and he was done with it. He announced he was going to delete everything related to Raccoon and it was all gone within like 12 hours of him saying that. He said any of the forks of his app can continue development, but since he deleted the entire repo with very little warning I don’t know if any of those forks were current with the latest commit before the parent repo disappeared.

I’m doing everything I can to keep !cyberpunk@lemmy.zip active. But I focus on cyberpunk as a genre of fiction and avoid news about our actual everyday dystopia, so that makes it hard to consistently post something.
Also, !steampunk@lemmy.zip and !vampires@lemmy.zip . Doing my part to fight against the flood of news posts on Lemmy with wacky genre stuff.
