I think that’s what happens a lot of time, and why there is a tiny truth to them saying things like “pride makes the kids gay”. It does not, but it might teach some bi sexuals that it’s okay to be just that, and not force yourself to forget about the other half.

1·3 days agoRight wing and authoritarian are two different scales. China for sure is môre authoritarian (so far), but overall the us probably has always been more right than China.

Technology@lemmy.world•Mathematics disproves Matrix theory, says reality isn’t simulationEnglish
222·3 days agoBut you wouldn’t have to simulate the whole universe, only one brain. There is no way for you to know, if everything your brain experiences is caused by it actually happening, or just the neutrons being triggered in that way from outside.

Technology@lemmy.world•Sam Altman Says If Jobs Gets Wiped Out, Maybe They Weren’t Even “Real Work” to Start WithEnglish
41·9 days agoHonestly (as a software engineer), we should have less of a privileged attitude towards being replaced. In the end, that’s what software engineers have been doing for years regarding other jobs.

21·9 days agoBut isn’t the investment still driven by consumption in the end? They invest in what makes money, but in the end things people are willing to spend money on make money.

Technology@lemmy.world•Everyday AI looks more like the '08 housing bubbleEnglish
11·23 days agoBecause they are still chasing a breakthrough. It’s one thing offering LLMs as a service or selling models, it’s another to develop new and better ones. It’s just a huge research cost. I’m pretty sure if they would stop research on new models and slightly increase their prices, they would be profitable. But they don’t want to fall behind.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Tech CEOs keep praising TrumpEnglish
2·2 months agoImagine you where in their shoes and you do value human life. What would you realistically do? Honest question, I’d like to think I’d do something different then them, but I can not think of a way that does not cut ties completely. I think the best I could do, is secretly support opposition behind the scenes, not sure how much of that is happening though.

Mildly Infuriating@lemmy.world•Tech CEOs keep praising TrumpEnglish
184·2 months agoI think for a lot of them, they don’t agree with most of his policies, but as CEO of such big companies you can not openly oppose him. They would lose a fortune, so instead they try to get the most out of it for their company.
Also, you gotta see it from their view. They are stuck with him now for 3 more years. In 3 years AI will keep getting bigger and may change a lot, loosing those 3 years because of trying to make a stand, might mean lossing your position on the table and your influence on its development completely.
All that said, I’m not saying it’s good that that’s what they are doing, but I can see some strategy in doing it like that
One of them actually being London. They had contactless pay with Google pay there for years already, without location service. You tab to go on and tab when you exit the metro

Technology@lemmy.world•Is AI Facing a Trough of Disillusionment?English
4·2 months agoNfts never really had any use in the first place. Ai and LLMs does have a lot of fields where it will be used and expanded on, how much depends a lot on how it keeps developing.
But current state LLMs already can change a lot, but it will take years to be implemented widespread. Think of all the things that are still not digital at all
