I feel very passionately about Ukraine and will return to posting regularly about it, but probably not on the sopuli.xyz Ukraine instance.

Nobody really bothered to address my concerns, @QuentinCallaghan@sopuli.xyz reached out to me personally and the second I pushed back on their framing they cut off communication.

I received no response from @Burstar@sopuli.xyz for their moderation actions.

I have received lots of little messages saying that people at sopuli.xyz like me but the lack of meaningful reaction to a mod silencing criticism of Israel quite blatantly and repeatedly from myself and others is alarming at this juncture in world history.

I don’t know how to feel other than kind of disconnected, it is important to me to keep posting updates about the Ukraine War, it doesn’t stop for my feelings but I just think it is so damn frustrating and indicative how the sopuli.xyz moderation team treated me with oven mitts from 1000 miles away while likely coddling the Zionist? mod who can’t handle anyone questioning whether Israel has actually behaved as an ally to Ukraine.

Are their personal issues are too tied up in the politics of this for them to see this lucidly? What makes me upset is that the rest of sopuli.xyz just kind of fell silent about it and made me feel like I was the problem.

Ukraine has no missile interceptors, and there is no end to the shortage of them in sight now. THE ONLY REASON FOR THIS are the choices Netanyahu/Israel and Trump/US made to launch the Iran War when they did and they were told repeatedly by advisors that this would be the inevitable result. I cannot emphasize this enough.

I was banned for responding to someone’s comments about Israel too, it wasn’t even like I brought Israel into the conversation, I just challenged the axiomatic assumption the person was making about Israel being Ukraine’s ally and that was enough to have my comments removed and be banned.

I don’t know what else to conclude.

I think all this AI technology is pretty much crap, but what I will say is that these tools are only useful when used in ensembles where multiple different models of disparate origins are consulted with the same question and then compared by a human to determine the quality of the results.

Not only are single modality trained models always going to outperform generalist ones given the way these tools work, they are also never going to be useful unless there are multiple discrete models trained to accomplish the same task being consulted.

What makes this all so broken is that nobody makes money by setting something up like Chatbot Arena where you can quickly feed the same data into multiple entirely different models, so the entire structure of the industry is problematic before even the first brick was laid down.

It is only when you input the same data into a tool like the above one that you can sketch a picture you can begin to trust. You can get quite good information out of very simple chatbots too because given comparisons against more complex ones it is far easier to establish trust, determine where innaccuracies and systematic issues lie, and route around problematic AI models if they are responding weirdly to a particular input of data.

I still don’t think it is worth the effort in most cases however unless large corporations buy up all the training data and destroy it/remove it from public access… at which point we will have a different more human problem.
