        There was a battle before the massacre. The same number of Medals of Honor were awarded in the Battle of Wounded Knee, a minor skirmish followed by a brutal massacre, than in the Battle of Antetam, one of the most pivotal battles of the US Civil War.

        Really ends up sounding like the army just wanted to make the soldiers feel like heroes instead of the murderers they ended up as.
