People do this in an attempt to minimize their footprints on the freshly mopped floor, either by walking on their toes or dramatically spacing out their steps. This comes at a risk of slipping though so people use their arms and body to help maintain stability to avoid a fall which results in the “lava walk”
I alwaya walk on the edges of freshly mopped stairs. I never considered how ridiculous I looked until the janitor laughed.
Yeah, you’re not doing it to let them know, you’re doing it to minimise floor contact. What is this?
Why not both?
I think I’ve said sorry if there’s someone mopping, but I still do the funny walk if no one is there but I can see the floor is still wet. The funny walk is absolutely to avoid mussing up the floor again. idk, this post seems like the “why are people tapping eggs at the supermarket” type post
EDIT: Sorry, I’m being rather grouchy.

Apparently I’m one of today’s lucky 10,000. Care to elaborate?
You wouldn’t do it if nobody was there
I would
This doesn’t make sense to me. If the wet is lava, and you step on the wet, you have stepped in lava. You should be screaming as your body dissolves and sinks into the floor. Maintain eye contact with the cleaner if you want more respect for doing so.
Stares deep into the cleaner’s soul while dragging their mud filled shoes over the freshly cleaned floor
people should moonwalk instead
I just alter the gravitational constant and float above freshly mopped floors.
