  • Buddy I’m not weeping for the retelling of stories. I’m weeping for the devolution of the modern Arts into perpetual nostalgiabait circlejerking in pursuit of profit.

There are MAJOR differences between “retelling a story because it’s a historical classic that still holds emotional and cultural value devades/centuries/millenia later”, and “rebooting a dead IP for nostalgiabait in order to try and make a shit ton of profit”.

The whole point of pursuing the Arts and Humanities, as I understand it, is to pursue NEW art and literature that evokes new emotion. Not just to pump out Airbud 27.

  • It seems to be a sign of cultural stagnancy and decay that very little new media is getting produced and ascending into the mainstream. I’m not saying NO new media is getting made, obviously there is more than ever, but a ton of what makes it into wider public consciousness seems to be remakes and reboots and sequels and side stories of established IP from 30+ years ago.

The incentives for safe financial bets has killed the future of original media. Weep, weep for the future. We shall see Airbud 27 by the end of the decade.
