The equivalent of red circles and arrows on thumbnails

Edit: I know this is 10 years old, but it’s the best source I could find. It seems as though it is unclear whether this was intentional: https://cosmosmagazine.com/science/mathematics/naughty-numbers-in-the-news/?amp=1 It is still not clear whether the classic, “‘We hate math,’ say 4 in 10 – a majority of Americans”, was a clever joke or stupidity.
