Andre Braugher, the Emmy-winning actor who would master gritty drama for seven seasons on “Homicide: Life on The Street” and modern comedy for eight on “Brooklyn 99,” died Monday at 61.
Braugher died after a brief illness, his publicist Jennifer Allen told The Associated Press. No further details were given.
The Chicago-born actor would establish himself in the role of Det. Frank Pembleton, the lead role on “Homicide: Life on the Street,” a dark police drama based on a book by David Simon, who would go on to create “The Wire.” The show, which focused on the homicide unit of the Baltimore Police Department, ran for seven seasons on NBC, and would win critical acclaim with Braugher as its dramatic center and breakout star.
He would win his first career Emmy for the role, taking the trophy for lead actor in a drama series in 1998.
“You know me. I see a pair of thick, weighty breasts, and all logic flies out the window.”
“There’s nothing more intoxicating than the clear absence of a penis.”
Lol. Those over the top lines used while he was undercover trying to pretend to be heterosexual were always hilarious.
Just started showing Brooklyn 99 to my girlfriend. We’re only on season 2 now but she loves it and always cracks up at his delivery. He played Raymond Holt perfectly and made him one of my favorite characters on the show.
61 is too young. RIP
This is ingrained with my DNA base coding.
“Why is no one having a good time? I specifically requested it. Gina, why aren’t you dancing?”
God speed and fair weather on your unearthly travels, you will be missed.
I hope he is looking down on Wuntch from heaven.
He’s playing Cwazy Cupcakes with God now.
He can also keep company with two Corgis that played Cheddar.
Three.
“Don’t worry, I am good at emotion.”
Andre will always be an amazing Human/Genius. Rest in Peace.
Painnnnn!
Sad Andre died. Loved the show.
