TL;DR: Meta is beta testing advanced AI features on Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses. Beta testers in the US can opt-in for early access to features like camera aided visual translation/summarization of text and asking any questions related to the image or topic within a certain period of time. Meta plans to make it available to everyone next year.
Once again
If a friend starts wearing these around, I will hang out with them a lot less. If at all

What about all of the smart securicams all over the place these days? Those are just as much of a privacy risk.
No, they really aren’t, because they’re at a fixed location and are all monitored by different mega corporations.
The closest thing is Ring doorbells, and even those are only located at people’s doors.
And they sell the data from them as a secondary revenue stream. Not just Ring doorbells, too: IoT security cameras are all over Shodan.
I got these before I cared about privacy. Wish I didn’t.
Wdym, you got one of them and you‘ve been enjoying it, but don’t like the potential privacy implications?
Yup.
What have you been mostly using them for if I may ask? And how much do you use them in general?
For privacy reasons (and also because it’s winter :p) I no longer use them that much, but when I did use them they were mostly show-offs. I also had to be really careful not to get them wet because of how expensive they are. They also aren’t that comfortable
So even without the privacy concerns they are not worth it after all.
Yup.

Apart from all the important critique: “…creating a beautiful and modern decorative piece” Seriously? It’s commenting about what you need to find nice?
The subtext there is “looks much less like a tech toy, which is why Glass didn’t catch on.”
