Needless to say, temperature stabilization requires leaving this coal in the ground.
There is plenty of coal all over the the US. There isn’t demand for it as its power is too expensive.
Per the latest Lazard LCOE, solar + storage, wind (onshore) + storage, and gas combined cycle are all cheaper than coal.
I wonder if there is more undug coal than there is garbage in landfills? Could it possibly be better for the environment and cheaper to simply burn our garbage rather than burning coal?
Can we just not burn things that will kill people?
Our trash is covered in plastic, and we can’t even manage to sort our recycling properly
