Donald Trump said Thursday he may pull acting Attorney General Todd Blancheās nomination for the full-time post to avoid conceding to Senate Republicansā demands over a sweeping tax audit immunity deal benefiting the president and members of his family.
After failed negotiations forced the delay of a committee vote to advance Blancheās nomination, Trump suggested he was holding firm against pressure from Republican Sens. John Cornyn and Thom Tillis. They have expressed concerns about the controversial settlement of Trumpās lawsuit against the Internal Revenue Service, which a judge denounced as an exercise in self-dealing.
The senators said the Justice Department seemed interested in reaching an agreement with them, but the White House wouldnāt budge to aid the confirmation of Trumpās loyal former personal attorney, who has aggressively pursued the administrationās priorities as acting attorney general. Instead, Trump said in a social media post that he might pull Blancheās nomination and resubmit it after Cornyn and Tillis leave office next year.
Trumpās brain is so broken that he thinks that admitting he lost is a negotiating tactic, lol, as if āfloatingā the idea is some sort of threat
He believes that because heās withdrawing the nomination rather than failing to pass a Senate confirmation vote, he is somehow still winning because he lost on his own terms. This is the purest form of narcissism.
I view it a bit differently than āhe doesnāt want to loseā.
The Senators asked Blanche directly to limit the scope of the audit settlement specifically to the parties in the original suit (Trump and his family), and to already filed returns, not new ones. Blanche verbally agreed, but the Senators want it in writing.
That is what Trump is arguing about - he wants the freedom to commit tax fraud with impunity in the future. Itās important enough to him that he wants to gamble on Republicans retaining the Senate after the election to preserve it.
This kind of gambit has worked for Republicans in the past. Itās how they stacked the SCOTUS, after all. McConnell pulled that off because he was politically shrewd, and knew it was a good gamble to take. But letās face it, McConnell is probably never coming back to the Senate, and Trump has managed to bankrupt several casinos, so I doubt he is a good gambler.
Exactly⦠And this is part of my bigger point: Trump thinks that heās somehow gonna wait out the midterm elections and come out on the winning side by re-introducing Blancheās nomination afterward, but itās likely heāll have even a worse chance of getting him confirmed then.
Hopefully Blanche enjoys the view from under the bus.
Typical result for Trump toadyā¦get fucked over
So, heāll pull the nomination, but Blanche will still remain as acting AG anyways. Fantastic system weāve set up here.

Arenāt those āconcessionsā court ordered at this point? Why would they go away if he pulls the nomination?
Exactly. The law isnāt based on a person; new nominee would likely have to meet same demands.
Despite recalling three words, T is not bright.
