We were all poster children for PETA's Rock Against Fur campaign. The now gone Palladium in NYC. This was filmed by Phranc! 4 Elvettes, Pinky, Julia Sloan, Michelle Chenelle & Erica Paige. We rehearsed this Elvis tune in our dressing room before performing it that evening. I can't remember if this was our first introduction to The Sugarcubes but we had became fast friends. We performed with them again in Los Angeles at the Wiltern Theater. We would go dancing, to dinners. I think we watched the Rodney King LA riots from the roof of their hotel The Hyatt House on Sunset Blvd. Where I had worked years before and would talk daily to its most wonderful resident, Little Richard...but thats a video for another time.
At this stage of December, my thoughts often turn to El Vez’s (the Mexican, punk rock Elvis) Christmas songs. This led me to uncover this gem from the El Vez archives. A backstage jam with The Sugarcubes, featuring backing vocals from Björk!
You’re most welcome. Back in the late 90’s I stumbled across some mp3s of El Vez and as alluded to, I always play his version of Feliz Navidad at least once in December!
Thanks for this. El Vez is from my home town, San Diego, California, (but a suburb called Chula Vista, really) and I haven’t heard his name in ages.

El Vez, Rocket from the Crypt and Mojo Nixon. They’re the San Diego legacy from those days. Good times.
