As a man, what is a “sanitary belt”? I know kotex and sanitary napkins but at the end on the right they also recommend a “kotex sanitary belt” which I’ve never heard of.
Just let me choke back the mild trauma the words “sanitary belt” invoke in me, and I’ll tell you.
Back in the Stone Age when I was a teen, sanitary pads weren’t adhesive. Instead, you had an elastic band - the sanitary belt - with tabs front and back. You’d use safety pins to attach the ends of the pad, and pull the assembly on like a pair of knickers. Then your actual knickers went on top of that.
It was all just as horrifying as it sounds. Tampons had been invented, but were rare and exotic in my neck of the woods. The whole subject was hedged round with shame and embarrassment. The subtext of “sanitary products” is that you are filthy, disgusting.
Someone close to me was head of the team at HB Fuller that invented the adhesive on pads used today. He is in his late 80’s now. Really cool such a simple invention impacted so many people.
And toxic shock from tampons was a thing then more than now so people were wary of them for awhile.
Wow, that sounds awful. So much worse than what I was picturing.
I was hoping it was like those chip dispenser belts in casinos but for tampons and maxi pads. Like you need a change, push a button on the belt and out pops a new pad/tampon if you happen to not have a purse on you…
