This year has featured a large number of Democrats ceding ground to right-wing narratives about transgender people. Multiple Democratic candidates have released anti-trans ads, taken anti-trans votes, or otherwise staked out positions that would harm the transgender community in their quest for political power. Meanwhile, Republicans continue to push their own anti-trans ad campaign, with Elon Muskās PAC pouring $100 million into ads, many of them targeting transgender people. Now, Annie Andrews, the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate in South Carolina, becomes the latest Democrat to target transgender people, despite her previous claims of support. In her latest ad, she appears to flip-flop on positions she has previously taken, calling transgender women ābiological menā and announcing her opposition to transgender participation in womenās sports. She also says she does not support "gender surgery for minorsā and would not overturn the felony youth HRT and puberty blocker ban in South Carolina.
āPolitics can get pretty ugly, and when it does, you deserve to hear the truth. My career as a pediatrician has always been about taking care of kids, and Iāve got three of my own. So I want you to hear me loud and clear: I donāt support biological men playing womenās sports, and I donāt support and havenāt ever performed gender surgery for minors. Iām Dr. Annie Andrews, and I approve this message because Darline Graham lying about me wonāt do a thing to help you,ā the ad says.
So are we still āvote blue no matter whoā or what?
I think the full protocol is
- vote progressive in all primaries
- vote blue no matter who
- use direct action, protest, and pressure to push people and politicians left the rest of the cycle
Add to that, dont stop after the election. Call your representatives. Tell them how you want them to vote on legislation. Even if you just leave a voicemail they have interns that tally it all up.
Yes money gets highest priority for them, but the more their constituents talk the more they understand what they have to do to keep getting elected. Those tallies tell them just how popular or unpopular something is.
Republicans literally have churches gather up their bored old people to do this in order to create an information bubble around politicians that skews hard right.
In South Carolina at least, it seems
Of course we had the Palestinian people now it is trans people time.
Who goes on the altar for 2028?
Vote blue to kill you know who!
Yes.
