The first time I saw cardoon was at the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Big, beautiful, and edible? I wanted to grow my own.

But thus far, no success. I got a single seedling up to maybe 6 inches around last year, but it was too late in the season. All the seedlings I started the spring failed to thrive and finally gave out. What’s the secret to getting them going?

I’m no fan of gardening, but the link you shared makes it sound easy: ” …To grow cardoons in your yard, you just need full sun and well drained soil amended with some organic matter. Water and fertilize regularly.”

Kidding aside, I’m passing this on to my wife who is the gardening fan at our house but she is not Lemmy (yet)

I KNOW (silent desperation emoji here)! I’ll gladly take any tips :D

I put the last of my seeds into the new raised beds. This just sprouted today!
