I remember that it was rumored during the 70’s or something that communists told people to go do their conscription and to try to achieve NCO and officer ranks as a preparatory school of sorts for revolution. Not sure if it was always just wild anti-communist rumours but the myth has lived on.
Would not be surprised. Revolutionary education had always been part of more left-wing radical movements in the country. They didn’t call Työväen akatemia that without a reason when it started.
