Pharmacies across the U.S. have started administering new COVID-19 booster formulations from drugmakers Pfizer and Moderna.
The Food and Drug Administration approved the revised mRNA vaccine shots Monday as several COVID variants spread and hospitalizations rise. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the shots for everyone 6 months and older. The vaccine is similar to previously approved formulas but it was updated to target the XBB variants that became prevalent last winter.
I went to CVS’s vaccine site to register, thinking they might have an announcement or a timeline or something, but the page made it sound like they already had the newest booster available, so I signed up for Saturday (tmrw) and got a slot. Earlier today though, I got a message saying my appt was canceled bc they didn’t have the newest booster yet. Kind of annoying. I knew it seemed too soon, but it was their language that prompted me to schedule.
CVS will also change pharmacy hours with zero notification to anyone. They’ve also been running out of several meds recently. I switched to Walgreens.
Depends on where you live. A lot of CVS and Walgreens are pretty flush with the new stuff in the California Bay Area.
My wife and I both got the new boosters from CVS today. Scheduled an appointment on Thursday night at 10pm, got shots at 3pm the next day.
Looks like inventory is just starting to roll in. Some places have it, and some don’t.
Looks like they’ll be available next week.
Sweet! Need to schedule that and my flu shot. Figured I would knock them out at the same time.
I’ve been holding off on the flu shot for this.
Got my shot today. Scheduled a CVS appointment last night.
In my area a lot of CVS and Walgreens pharmacies are rolling with inventory from both Pfizer and Moderna.
Same here, plus the flu shot in the same arm! The pharmacist at the counter actually thought they didn’t have it yet cause it just got released, but after I showed her my CVS schedule page, she went to the back and found them.
Holycrap you’re right
