This and Moana 2 breaking box-office records is insane to me. I had no idea people liked Moana that much, I expected it to be another well-liked but sort of forgettable animated flick like Coco.

I haven’t seen Moana 2, but the first one has got a lot of kid appeal, and I found the music to be more appealing and fresh than other big animated productions.

If you’ve ever had a kid fixated on a show with an absolutely grating soundtrack or character voices, you’ll appreciate and encourage any interest they show in something with nice music.

Moana 2 success seems weird to me too. The character is probably popular among children

Yep, remember all the hype for Frozen from kids back when it came out? Very similar to how they respond to Moana now.

As a double-whammy, Coco was the highest grossing movie in Mexico of all time when it came out.

It was toddler crack. I was not allowed to say “Moana” in front of my friends’ kid because it would trigger an obsession that could only be calmed by sitting her in front of it. Kids who were obsessed with the first one are now aware of what a theater is and how to manipulate their parents into taking them there.

44 billion minutes of stream time

    107 minute runtime

The movie has been streamed, in aggregate, 6.85 million times. The numbers are slightly breathtaking, but it’s not hard to believe.

I heard that Disney had a special treatment for the native language in the first movie. It was well received, and they specifically didn’t have the characters speak English during songs that featured the native language. I forget how it was worded. Does anyone have a link to this analysis?
