I’m looking forward to this, but I’m skipping this trailer. I think they’ve revealed too much already.
A middle-aged nerd from the UK. I like films and write about them, sometimes for Film Stories or my blog.
Have a great day.
I’m looking forward to this, but I’m skipping this trailer. I think they’ve revealed too much already.
It’s a great film with a wonderful cast. The soundtrack is pretty fake good as well.
100% agree. The reason I love the xenomorph is because it’s so alien. A creature that has two beings in a single life form. Weird and strange.
I know it’s Ridley’s franchise but I didn’t like the way he tried to create a backstory. I don’t want it explained thank you, I’m happy enough that they’re instinct driven killing machines.
The trailer made me laugh. I’ll watch it once.
Yes, just one L for us Brits! Source. 😁
I missed this story so I just read the list and agree. There’s only two reasons that have any real bearing on the films success. The other three are just petty digs.
Additional: Dredd (Review | Dredd 3D (2012)) was one of the first reviews I wrote when my friend asked me to write film based articles for his website.
Dredd is fucking fantastic, and I’m a big fan. It didn’t perform well at the box office, which is a huge shame as the sequel would have introduced Judge Death. The trailer was only released a few weeks before the film, and I don’t think most people were aware of it.
Actually, the first footage that appeared online was a VFX breakdown, but it was removed from YouTube after a couple of days.
The problem came down to money. There’s a video from the producer which explains that all the investors made a loss, so no one is interested in financing a sequel.
Also, I’ve seen some people claim this film is a rip-off of The Raid which isn’t true as I believe both were in production at the same time.
Could have been done just with a well directed animatronic coupled with some basic CGI to enrich some textures and details.
That’s exactly what they did. A full head animatronic of Ian Holm’s likeness was built.
People who claimed to have been at a preview screening say the effect was fully practical, but that it was also a little distracting because it looked like a “muppet” (Their words, not mine.)
So in the intervening time between previews and release, they have used AI and CGI to apparently make the eyes and lip sync movement smoother for a better effect.
I agree it looks jarring in the film and I would personally like to see the raw practical shots to see how it looked beforehand.
Its Very well hidden.
Agreed. Apart from Andor, I haven’t really liked anything else. Take Obi Wan for example. It felt to me like shoehorning in a new story that didn’t need to exist at all.
I thought the first action set piece with the facehuggers in Romulus was the films highlight. The corridor section, not so much.
Romulus would be better without the callbacks to the first two films. One character in particular I wish was someone else entirely. Also, I didn’t like the ending as it tied into Prometheus/Covenant, my least favourite of the Alien franchise.
I feel Alien has gone the way of Star Wars which keeps linking to the Skywalker’s. Let Alien break free of the Ripley verse (She’s even in Romulus as a well hidden Easter Egg!) and do something different. The comics have had excellent stories over the years, adapt one of those.
One of my favourites is Aliens: Labyrinth which is about a crazy scientist on a deep space station who has successfully got the alien species under control. His backstory is quite something and you know it will go wrong in the end.
Well guys, as this article states, it looks like Borderlands all over again. It’ll probably be on streaming by the end of the week! 😜
I only discovered it myself in the last month or so.
For example, I loved X-Wing CD edition back in the day for the real Star Wars soundtrack but I need to try it with MT32 midi emulation. I bet the iMuse system sounds fantastic.
It’s an emulator for playing the entire back catalogue of Lucasarts games. It’s very well documented and ready to use. As I said, if you had some kind of general midi set up or Roland MT32 back in the day, you’d be laughing. The music is awesome.
The program is called Dreamm.
DREAMM is a backronym for:
DOS
Retro-
Emulation
Arena for
Maniac
Mansion (and other LucasArts Games).
I love DVDs and Blu-rays. Some of them have been fantastic with special features. The Frighteners have a 4½ hour documentary. The Blade Runner documentary is 3½ hours.
As the article states, even the menus were inventive and humorous. Spinal Tap is a good one, another favourite is UHF which was a flipper disc. The film was on one side, with the extras on the other. So if you tried to watch the extras from the film side…
Now, unless a film is from a boutique label, studios can’t be bothered to release material like this any more. A press release can often sound very impressive, but with the disc in hand, it turns out each of the special features only last for five or ten minutes.
We’ve had:
The Crow
The Crow: City of Angels
The Crow: Salvation
The Crow: Wicked Prayer
All separate stories with the same premise. Wicked Prayer is truly awful. I watched it once, lent it to a friend and never asked for it back!
And yes, you’re right, there was also one season (22 episodes) of The Crow: Stairway to Heaven. Which was Eric Draven’s story expanded into a television series.
Which leads us to this new film which is Eric Draven once again.
I enjoyed the film in the moment but as I look back on it, even though there’s a lot of things I liked, I’m not sure it is as good as I thought it was. Here’s that thought elongated into 1000 words.
