Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of the cart which is widely used today is often called “a wheel,” and many of its users are not aware that it is basically a cart, developed by the Cart Project. There really is a wheel, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. A wheel is a part: the circular component in the system that allows the cart to roll across the ground. A wheel is an essential part of a cart, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete cart. The wheel was never perfectly good actually, it was actually incredibly bad and needs to be fixed.

This analogy doesn’t really work because there are thousands of different wheels that all spin on an axis but are used for many different things. If the wheel was never reinvented or improved upon we wouldn’t have automatic transmissions, rocket engine turbo pumps, gyroscopes, etc.
