    The significant difference is that England is a footballing country, and has been for longer than anyone else. It’s going to take generations before anyone seriously looks at the Saudi League and thinks it’s a genuine footballing nation. The US has the same problem with the MLS, it’s slowly growing but not at any kind of rate that will worry established nations.

    People will laugh because LL has always had this arrogance that football should revolve around its two major clubs. Madrid and Barca are legendary clubs in their own right, but at the same time they probably damage the rest of the Spanish product because foreigners only really care about those two clubs. The league as a whole isn’t marketed in a way that recognises even massive clubs like Valencia.
