Moderate, 5.63 mi out and back (loop was closed)
1,847 ft elevation gain
Hiked 3/24/25
The tallest mountain along the Oregon coastline, Humbug mountain rises directly out of the sea to an elevation of 1,745 ft. With such a sharp rise, this short hike is all elevation, but the mostly well groomed trail makes it a great workout to get to the summit for views of the Oregon coastline.

A Trillium flower unfurls in the morning light.

Looking north, the town of Port Orford may be seen along the Oregon coast.

A Snail-Eating Beetle (not positive on which species) climbs a small vine of moss dangling from a stump. FOr something that eats snails, these things sure move fast.
Bah!
How’s the road noise from highway 101? It’s very close to the highway, looking at the map.
Not terrible iirc, early on you hear it, and then the trail of tucks in to the mountain which blocks a lot of the noise. It’s a steady enough incline that you’ll hear your heartbeat over a lot of traffic as well haha. But the area where I took the photo looking towards Port Orford, which is near the top you could clearly hear it before it goes away again at the more ocean facing summit. Unsure of the southern side of the trail as it was temporarily closed when I was there.
