“I remember always watching Cristiano Ronaldo. His movements in the box: He used to make two or three movements before attacking the room he wanted in. There’s some kind of duel in that situation with the centre-backs. It is about timing it perfectly. And the entry must be good. If you do not get a good post, you can not score on the head, Haaland points out.I think one thing is incredible– Is it Ronaldo who has been the inspiration in the box, or are there others you have also looked at?– He is «main».– How he moved, and how he managed to develop his game. You remember when he played at Manchester United and his first years at Real Madrid, to become more of a striker at Real Madrid.– It is incredible for him that he can. But also how he scores the goals. It is the small movements in the box, and to be able to fool the defenders, Haaland considers.”

    He’s right.

Haaland, Ronaldo (Kane, Shearer and basically any record goal scorer) have been accused of being tap in merchants but if it were that easy every striker would be doing it. It’s 100% about your movement, fooling the defenders and knowing where your team mate is going to put the ball and trusting he knows where you’ll be. Even with all of that you still need to have the skill to score off difficult chances.

Cavani was exceptional at it too. Watch highlights of him in the box and his constant adjustments to this position to ensure he had the best chance to be free for a shot. Haaland and Ronaldo do that too but better.

You know for a fact he has seen at least one of those “omg moments on the pitch” comps with the shitty thumbnails of ronaldo holding a linesman at gunpoint

I think Haaland is a better fit for Real Madrid than Mbappe right now. While Mbappe can play as a striker, his skillset is better used on the wing, and unless Real Madrid intend to sell Rodrygo, I doubt they will play him there.

Most of Mbappe’s club career he’s played as a striker and there’s really no difference, so this whole false narrative that his skilllset is “better” on the right is just a lazy analysis that everyone who don’t watch him play week in week out have

Any young attacker or striker would have to look up to the best goals scorers for sure, Cavani is another elite player in terms of movement in behind and on the shoulder of defenders
