For me Matt le Tissier takes the cake, managing to score 25 goals from midfield in the 1993/94 season for a Southampton team that finished 18th. Other strong contenders:
- Luis Suarez 13/14, honestly maybe the best individual season a player’s ever had in the league. 31 goals and 11 assists in 33 games in a Liverpool team that was largely Europa League level aside from Gerrard and Sturridge.
- Kevin Phillips 99/00, scoring 30 goals and winning the European Golden Shoe for newly promoted Sunderland.
Who’ve you got?
Palace would not be an established Prem team if it wasn’t for Zaha over the last decade. Not necessarily every season, but there were times he single handedly dragged us out of the relegation mire through sheer dogged persistence.
Biased but this should be higher. No player on this thread has been as important to one club for such a long period of time.
Unbiased, guy was a beast who flourished at being the big fish in a smaller pond (no disrespect to CP)
Indeed. We wouldn’t even be in the Premier League if he hadn’t made it his personal mission to beat Brighton in the playoffs.
Honestly, I would argue apart from Viera’s first season, we would have gone down without him every year.
