I don’t think ETH was wrong given the situation and what happened, but I think what ultimately killed Ronaldo was missing preseason. Not saying it was wrong as it was for family and personal reasons, but preseason is so vital for a player’s season, especially one at his age. He just couldn’t get fit and found himself on the bench which his ego couldn’t take

Half the comments here talk about Ronaldo not fitting the system or having a big ego which may be true but I distinctly remember that Ronaldo pretty much dragged that team to a Top-4 finish, was their highest goal scorer as well.

The whole rift with Ronaldo started when the team wasn’t winning and the English media, in typical fashion, found someone on the team to blame. For weeks the media went on about Ronaldo not doing enough or any running or defensive work - something that was never part of his playing style for almost a decade since he left United the first time.

If the media didn’t crucify Ronaldo, I reckon ETH would have found other solutions to resolve the issue, instead he bent to the will of the media. I’ve followed some of ETH’s interviews this season after losses and I can tell he buckles under media pressure saying things like “we played well” after a loss.

Ronaldo’s attitude may have been wrong but ETH handled the entre situation incredibly poor.

A lot of people seem to forget that Ronaldo went AWOL in preseason when ETH came, refused to meet him and tried to force a move to a CL team which never happened. Came back with his tail between his legs and ETH put his foot down with him and he didn’t like it. I’m not saying he wasnt at fault maybe he could have done something different but I put the blame more on Ronaldo. Didn’t Ole do an interview recently and even said Ronaldo was a mistake?

Whatever line you could possibly set for a player publicly disrespecting a club, manager, and breaching confidentiality, Ronaldo crossed and then some. If Ten Hag was so wrong, every top club in Europe would have made Ronaldo an offer instantly

The CR7 seethe is unique. I think he reminds people of the cool guy they never were and they hate him for it. Ten Hag is a shit coach and CR7 was playing like shit end of.

I think a lot of what went wrong with Ronaldo may have been at least partially due to him losing a child. I cannot imagine what that may have done to his mental health at the time. Of course, it could have all gone wrong anyway, but this should be a consideration. Maybe he felt unsupported by ETH?

Following the Piers Morgan interview, there was no way he could be allowed back. Managers and clubs, whether it’s Real Madrid, Man Utd, or Barcelona, should not capitulate to the demands of any individual. ETH also has limited experience. Both have significant egos, and ETH’s ego was evident with De Gea and Sancho.
