Premier League can be harder. UCL is more valuable. We’ve seen a few teams fluke a UCL, but a team can’t really fluke a PL.

Pep has won almost every league title over the last fifteen years but has only won three champions leagues in that period, with only one of those coming in the last decade. That should answer your question.

The nature of knockout football means you will get some teams that can fluke a win whereas you will never see someone fluke their way to a league title, but typically I would say the Champions League will always be more difficult due to the combination of the average quality and the fact that one bad game could see the end of you.

When it comes to difficulty, it depends on how good the team in particular is.

If you’re the best team in the competition, the Premier League is easier than the Champions League. The league format means variance doesn’t have as big of an impact and so you’re less likely to fail to win the competition because of a freak result.

If you’re a somewhat weaker team, I’d say the Champions League is actually easier, even though the average quality of opposition is higher, because it’s easier to get a handful of good results against better teams than it is to outperform your level over a 38 game period.

I am going to make a case for the CL being more difficult. The PL is more gruelling, but you can win with enough depth in personnel and a relatively narrow range of tactics and strategy if you’re strong enough. But, if you are going to win the CL, you will have to master all the different tactical approaches that you can expect from the best coaches in the world and the best players. It’s like the difference between a course at university marked on your average, and one which depends on three or gruelling examination papers which expect you to demonstrate skills in every subject you have ever learned.

I don’t understand how people are saying the PL is harder than CL. PL is realistically between 6 top teams, and a bunch of mid tables and lower tables. The CL is top four plus Real, Barca, Atletico, PSG, Bayern, and a bunch of other teams that can cause an upset.

You can’t win the PL by getting lucky, but you can win the CL with an incredible amount of luck. But the CL is still harder.

United got two under Ferguson, City got one so far during their incredible success spell. If the PL was harder you would expect to see more English success in CL even including teams who weren’t necessarily winning the PL same year.

It’s the premier league, obviously. CL is a cup competition, all cups require luck to win and quite often the best team doesn’t win it. only need to look at the last time liverpool and Chelsea won it to prove that. The best team almost always wins the league. CL is only prestigious because of the money involved and the marketing campaign to make it what it is.

    Value is dependent on context.

Liverpool had a 30 year PL title drought so winning the title was more meaningful than the CL.

Man City had never won a CL before so winning their first CL title was more meaningful than their league title.

All things being the same, CL is more prestigious but more influenced by luck. PL is harder overall.

The PL is harder on average than the group stages of the CL. The knockout stages of the CL are hardest to win overall and the trophy itself is probably more prestigious.

Premier League. Gotta slog it out over almost 10 months.

The Champions League, for top clubs, is a relatively unchallenging 6 matches, and a handful of two-legged knockouts. Granted, towards the end, you gotta beat other well-heeled clubs, but still.

I’d say champions league to both. Brings in more money eventually due to increased visibility, more glory hunting fans etc.

And I’d say it’s harder based on City’s recent record in both competitions. Over the league season, results balance out and the best team will usually win. In a league then knock out competition anything can happen.

It’s subjective and there’s really no clear answer. People will say premier league is harder because it’s more games and is a slog and that’s fair. look at some of the teams who’ve won champions leagues that had no shot at the premier league but got hot or lucky at the right time so people say the premier league is harder.

But to win the champions league you have to be perfect for 7 games one bad half an hour can ruin your season. It’s a completely different type of pressure and can be just as difficult. You can’t afford a bad night.

Looking at this season for Man City winning the premier league is likely easier than winning the champions league. They have the best squad and they are able to have some dodgy games because they have time to make it up whereas if they have a bad night in February or march then the champions league is done. For Newcastle, arsenal and united the champions league is easier to win because they only have to be great for 7 matches rather than 38. Different teams will find different competitions challenging at different levels
