Ridder is somewhere between Baker Mayfield and Kenny Pickett. That’s fine in a bridge year or even if you have an elite defense, but we aren’t in either of those situations. We need a vast qb upgrade to have a chance in the NFC in the next 3 years.

If he keeps improving and playing well enough to win games I think we draft a first round edge and I think we can still get a good qb by maybe trading up in the 2nd round (depending on the qb class situation) and let them battle it out.

Dez being Stroud the rest of the year still isn’t enough in my opinion.

hot take! man you’d be crazy. cj’s been looking great. he’d at least be worth keeping around and compete with the new qb if he’s playing that hot

If he finishes the year strong and plays well in the home playoff game, doesn’t have to win would 100% deserve a second look IMO

Some of y’all still trying to talk yourselves into this happening. And desperately want game manager play for some reason. Only way I would be ok with this is if he’s putting up 65%+, 200+ yards and better than a 2:1 ratio the rest of the way out and a winning record while looking good. And I just don’t see that happening right now.

Wanting the bare minimum and “game manager” play from the QB is the most baffling thing ever when I comes to Ridder believers.

I mean it really depends on the rest of the season. As it stands right now I’d say we have to bring in another QB.

There’s no way the team can go into next season without adding true competition at the position.

Ridder has done nothing that would have the FO pass on adding a QB in the draft or by some other means. He’s be responsible for 15 TOs, has more Interceptions than TDs. There’s nothing in his game that give the impression that he’s going to take a massive step and why would the team bet on what they’ve seen this year. I won’t go as far as say he’s trash but the guy ain’t a franchise QB, and if you don’t have that guy on your team, you’d best find one.

A rookie QB may require a trade up, but would also reset the counter on having an affordable QB contract. A vet might cost more money and would only be kicking the QB position down the road.

Everyone should be open to it. It’s objectively best for the club IF he turns it on and has an amazing last 6 games and makes noise in the playoffs. I doubt it, but I damn sure hope for it.

Then, we can trade up or focus on getting edge in the draft.

Root for the guys playing, it’s more fun, and it’s better for the team if he balls.

Disclaimer I do not think he will prove he’s the guy in 6 games, but I hope he does.

Heinicke should be a cut candidate. Draft Jayden Daniels in the first and let Rid and Daniels battle it out in camp. Oh and bring in a new offensive coordinator. Let Ragone walk, if we make the playoffs we will fortunately or unfortunately have another year with Art, if that is the case we need a new offensive mind to be QB Coach/Pass Game coordinator/OC and come in to blend offensives with Art. But we need plus production at the QB. I like Rid but at this juncture he seems more like a high end OB2 than a top tier QB.

Glad to beat the Saints, but let’s stop pretending Ridder put the team on his back or something. The offense scored 17 points and he completed 13 passes.

The ONLY reason we should draft a QB is if an unbeatable deal falls into our lap that allows us to get Jayden Daniels without giving up any offensive weapons or more than 1 first-round pick. IF that scenario happens, we should jump on it and take a shot since he is the most “big play” QB available in this draft with the fewest questions. He’s basically a bigger Desmond Ridder with experience against much tougher defenses, plus he’s stronger and a better pure runner.

If that scenario doesn’t pan out, we should burn all our draft stock on improving the defense. Lot of great defenders in this draft class.

Of course, this is predicated on bringing in a serious Offensive Coordinator OR getting rid of Arthur Smith altogether, but that won’t be likely if we win the division.
