Selfhosted@lemmy.world•People who are staying on Plex, have you tried Jellyfin? What about it do you not prefer? (real question)English
13·5 days agoI paid for it ages ago on a deal, and it currently suits my needs. It runs as a docker container and it just works. It’s easy enough for my elderly mom to use remotely and I’ve ripped my entire movie collection for her to watch. I also like the live tv that’s included with the pass.
I would switch in a heartbeat if it wasn’t doing what I need, but so far I have no complaints, it works well for my family’s needs.

Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•You should consider yourself lucky if you use adblocker and YouTube is still playing videos for youEnglish
2·5 days agoYeah, I’m sure my normal is not regular normal, I’m an old graybeard so my perspective is a bit off.
But a pihole is super easy. Mine runs in a VM in Proxmox now, but I’ve run it on a raspberry pi and as a docker container as well. Well worth a shot.

4·5 days agoI honestly don’t know what I’m doing right, just typical stuff I’d think.
I have a pihole as my dns/dhcp. I use Firefox with enhanced tracking protection turned on, ublock origin and privacy badger.
On my phone I have AdGuard (paid one time license fee).
I still am seeing YouTube without ads. I occasionally have to reload a video, but no showstoppers yet. Only posting my setup in case it help anyone else. Hopefully it’s not instructions for them on what to attack next…

6·8 days agoOh, completely agreed. I only say it because I want to fight the actual fight. Labels be damned, the fucker is acting like one, has the power of one, has full immunity from the law and a court of sycophants.
So, he may not have the title, but he sure acts like one. So, let’s fight him like one.

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•I'm looking for a free OS, should it be Debian or Arch Linux(community)?English
2·9 days agoIt takes a bit of time to find the right distro and that is the biggest obstacle to linux imo.
It’s also the greatest benefit. Vanilla stuff works out of the box for most, but once you need more, there’s a paved runway headed in any direction you want to go (some in better shape than others to be fair).
Windows and OS X are certainly wider runways, but there are cliffs off the side of you want to change direction.
Good things usually take time, but you will know where you are when you get there.
Yep, I use Dr. Bronners for everything. Especially when camping, when it’s: hair, face & body, toothpaste, shaving cream, dish detergent, bug repellant, emergency lubricant (stuck stoves, tentpole, etc), laundry soap, and anything else I can find to use it for.

12·10 days agoIt’s a start, but there is so much more work to do, and people will need to learn to live with their heads outside of their asses. Sadly most folks seem to think the midterms are the one weird trick that will allow them to shove it straight back up…

Technology@lemmy.world•Pizza Hut's AI system caused 'cascading' problems and $100M in damages, franchisee alleges in new suitEnglish
33·10 days agoThis shit drives me up a wall. The local, formerly awesome pizza place switched to DoorDash for delivery and it has sucked ever since. Pizza arrives cold since door dash drivers don’t have insulated bags, half the time they chuck it on the front porch and it sits there on the cold concrete even longer.
Delivery driver was always a reliable stoner job, I had so many friends in my youth who delivered pizza. Despite the cloud of weed smoke that came with the pizza, it was always hot and fast. They were motivated to get those tips after all.

221·10 days agoNow they need to preserve salad fingers. I’m still creeped out by it and so should future generations.

The reframe has already worked. The number keeps being reported as 1.8 billion dollars when it was specifically 1.776 billion, 1776 being red meat for his base. That number means something to them and covering it up is providing cover for the motivation and intent of the fund.
The 1,776 million number contains more useful info than saying 1.8 billion, so I’m cool with that framing.
