Go 180 mph on a motorcycle. I’ve done it, and I won’t do it again. I’m a pretty solid rider, but 180 is above my reaction time. Things were behind me before I had a chance to react to them. So, I decided going that fast is stupid, and deadly, and I wont do so again. 120-140 however is manageable. I can react with time to spare. 105 is like a cakewalk. I’m just as comfortable at 105 as I am at 55.

We were thinking that we wouldn’t crop our puppy when we got one, but when we finally found a puppy he was already cropped and docked. He actually just finished his posts a couple weeks ago. After going through the process, I’ll tell you that it was more of an issue for us than for him. He really didn’t care at all. He scratched at the posts periodically on the first day for around 4 hours and that was it. After that he didn’t care about them at all. He was super well behaved changing them, and really enjoyed getting his ears cleaned. They’re less likely to get ear infections with their ears up, and their sound localization is much better too. It helps us see what he’s listening too as well. He’ll move his ears around, and when he figures out where the sound is, he puts them both forward and looks in that direction. That’s pretty cool. So, I’d probably do it again if we were given the choice. Plus, they look so very handsome with their ears done.

Wouldn’t the people who are going to do that already be Linux users though? I don’t know anyone who has a home media server who hasn’t at least experimented with Linux. It takes some technical knowledge and desire to get everything configured correctly.

Arch is awesome! That’s what I use for my gaming desktop and my laptop. It’s near the top of the list for this new system I’m going to build, but I’m considering more hands-off distros too like Fedora, and its media focused derivatives.

Just on the Everything feed with a bunch of filters & blocks, and a specific block for the word “anime”. I still end up blocking individual anime communities on a regular basis. That has been happening for over a year now, so there are a lot of them. I’m surprised you never see it. What are you on?

I would have already put Linux on my wife’s computer, but she has a Surface Pro, and I’ve read that there aren’t any distros that will get all of the hardware for those working properly. I don’t want her first experience with a Linux system to be something that is inferior. But she started saying a couple weeks ago that she wants a gaming system, so I bought parts for one last week, and I’m going to put Linux on it after I build it. That’ll be a good introduction for her, and if she loves it then she’ll be a Linux convert!

I haven’t read The Similarian, but we know from the LotR series that all races were duped into taking the rings and controlled by them. So how do the books differ if you don’t mind explaining. Actually, I don’t want spoilers! I’m going to read it some day. I swear! But do tell me, does the dwarven king not become overwhelmed by the ring’s influence in the books?

One thing you probably haven’t read about Dobermans is how much attention they attract. We’ve always had dogs, but we’ve never been mobbed by people wanting to meet our dog until we got our Doberman. I guess because they’re fairly rare, and they look really cool, that people really want to come say hi and pet him. Everywhere we take him (which is pretty much everywhere) he attracts attention, and people come over to talk to us.

Yeah I think it’s amazing. That’s a lot of logic from an animal. They have to figure out multiple things in succession to complete the objective, and even recognizing the objective is impressive on its own.

There are a lot of reasons why I’m switching back, but the main one is that the on-device closed captioning doesn’t really work. It’ll work for a sentence or two and then stop. I have to turn it off and on 1-3 times and then it’ll work again for a sentence or two. Some other reasons are that Siri doesn’t respond half the time. It’ll listen to what I say and then shut off. The text selection is still bad, and how you move the cursor around is clunky. Videos on the steam website won’t play. They start playing and then go black. There are a bunch of other small reasons too, but those are the main ones. One issue would be annoying, but I’d be willing to troubleshoot it. But all these issues? I didn’t spend $1200 on a flagship phone to constantly troubleshoot problems. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of nice things about the phone too. I want to like it. It feels nice, the screen is great, and the camera is too. But all-in-all it’s too glitchy for what I paid for it. It’s going back tomorrow.

We considered a standard poodle. They’re amazing dogs. But we decided we want a dog with a little more brawn, since we live in a rural area and there are coyotes and stuff. So, we got a dobie. He’s still a puppy, so he’s got that puppy energy going on, and it’s hard to wear him out.

He’s incredibly sweet and intelligent, but he always wants to be doing something. Plus he’s like a toddler. He won’t go to sleep when he’s tired, he just gets restless, ornery, and bitey. We have to put him to bed and make him take naps. The biting has almost completely stopped now that he’s nearly finished teething, so that has been nice.

But he requires a lot of attention and exercise. He spends a good chunk of the day outside just kind of exploring around, and attacking his huge plushie toys. He will relax in my office if I lock him in there with me, so there’s that, but we go outside several times during the day. During my lunch break I sometimes take him for a 1 mile walk. Then after work I take him for a 1.5-2.5 mile hike depending on the difficulty and his energy levels. Then he eats. Afterwards he has to chew on stuff for like 2 hours! lol. Then we do some training, and sometimes scent work. He finally starts winding down around bedtime assuming he got enough exercise that day. From what I understand, they will need less exercise as they get older, but right now he has a nearly bottomless supply of energy.

This is our first Doberman, first large breed dog, and first working dog. It’s been an adventure. That said, we love him to pieces. He is a total character, full of personality and quirks, and he’s the sweetest, gentlest boy, when he’s not in zoomie mode. If he’s got the zoomies then all bets are off. I highly recommend this breed, assuming you know what you’re getting into, and you have the fitness level and time to meet their needs.

My wife is more technical than all of her friends and family, plus she has me to help her understand stuff she doesn’t understand. Does she get concerned when I tell her all the fucked up shit these companies are pulling? Nope! She gets annoyed at me for being a downer. If she’s an above average user, and she doesn’t care, then how little do average users care? If I change her settings for her then she’s glad for it, but she won’t go figure out how to do any of it on her own. She just doesn’t care enough to spend the time doing that.

You should definitely tell Costco, who had Christmas decorations out in fucking JULY!
