My bad for being snarky then.
Binzy_Boi@lemmy.cato Community Promo@lemmy.ca•Welcome to a community representative of the global south.4·7 days agoOkay? Then what exactly makes it the “global south” then?

Binzy_Boi@lemmy.cato No Stupid Questions@lemmy.ca•Why is KF looked down upon while Discord is not?5·7 days agoDiscord has a much larger userbase tham KiwiFarms.
Discord’s admin team doesn’t condone or call for this type of stuff, it just so happens that people used their platform for bad things. It’s near impossible to manually keep an eye on things at their scale, and doing so would violate people’s privacy as it’s a messaging platform with plenty of private communities and chats.
The admin of KiwiFarms actively condones and engages in the harassment of people. It’s quite literally their founded purpose. Chris Chan isn’t a great person, but she doesn’t deserve harassment. The KiwiFarms community went after one socially-awkward person with a neurological condition, and then decided it wanted to go after anybody else who might be slightly socially awkward.
I was in a community one time with someone who was socially awkward, but genuinely a well-meaning person. I’m not naming names, but I eventually found out that people had a harassment campaign against her for the most mundane of reasons.
“Becoming associated” with “petty” harassers is misleading and you know that. They were founded to be an harassment campaign, and grew to harass others to the point of suicide, which they then continue to mock after death. All this because a bunch of sad individuals need to put others down in order to feel better about themselves when in actuality they’re worse than the people they harass to the point of killing themselves for an escape.
I hope you know that you and anybody else who uses that site will never amount to anything more than accessories to crime. If you really need to feel better about yourself, then howsabout you delete your KF account, go outside, and get a life?
Binzy_Boi@lemmy.catoLemmy.ca's Main Community@lemmy.ca•Lemmy needs more donationsEnglish122·15 days agoI mean, PieFed exists as alternative software that has a very similar feel to the one Lemmy has.
Could also go for making the instance one based on Mbin, though the layout change might be a bit of an adjustment for people.
Binzy_Boi@lemmy.catoLemmy.ca's Main Community@lemmy.ca•Lemmy needs more donationsEnglish18·15 days agoHonestly for all the flaws it has that the developers are still working on, I would much rather give my time and money into supporting PieFed.
At least the devs there are expressly against the kind of rhetoric Nutomic and Dessalines regularly involve themselves in.
Binzy_Boi@lemmy.caOPto New to Lemmy@lemmy.ca•How do I ban a user from a community they haven't posted in?10·20 days agoMy reasoning for doing so in the community I mention is just because it’s a music community, and I really don’t want new people to the community getting the impression that they and their music tastes aren’t welcome, especially if the downvotes are coming from people blanket downvoting their All feed rather than from community members themselves.
This would likely just be with people I see who have a history of doing this according to modlogs, and not with regular users who happen to downvote a post.
Giving the thread a read, thanks!
Binzy_Boi@lemmy.caOPto New to Lemmy@lemmy.ca•How do I ban a user from a community they haven't posted in?51·20 days agoIf you’re a moderator of a community on Lemmy, you can view the upvotes and downvotes on posts for what I assume to be moderation reasons.
I don’t think it’s always hidden data and more dependent on the fedi software you use, since I do remember people a while ago getting upset with Kbin and their public upvotes and downvotes.
Binzy_Boi@lemmy.cato FediLore + Fedidrama@lemmy.ca•feddit.uk has been defederated from lemmy.blahaj.zone4·23 days agoThis was a long time back, but Blahaj Zone defederated with the LemmyNSFW community a while ago since LemmyNSFW had a community by the name of “Adorable Porn”, reason being that they thought it was content that appealed to pedophiles and the likes.
The community had some irl pornographic content with cutesy sorta vibes, mainly of petite women. The admins of Blahaj Zone basically demanded LemmyNSFW remove the community, or they would defederate since they thought it was reverse jailbait, adults made to look like minors.
The community description didn’t really help at all seeing that it had the term “child-like” there, which is likely what set the spark for the entire interaction, but it was copy-pasted from a dictionary definition. Also pouring fuel on the fire iirc was the fact that the admins of LemmyNSFW have English as their second language, so that might have also gotten in the way of things.
It’s been a while since this all happened, but from what I remember they removed “child-like” from the community description, but Blahaj Zone ended up defederating anyway still of the opinion that the community’s purpose was to appeal to pedos.
I just remember seeing this all go down cause for a time since I was windowshopping for a new instance to move to, and was using Blahaj Zone’s website to check what was posted to 196, and saw it the defederation notice stickied to the homepage.
Binzy_Boi@lemmy.cato FediLore + Fedidrama@lemmy.ca•feddit.uk has been defederated from lemmy.blahaj.zone114·24 days agoEh, there was a situation a while ago with the LemmyNSFW instance that I felt was a bit much. However, the sidebar of the community they had issue with didn’t help LemmyNSFW’s case despite the fact it was a copy-pasted dictionary definition.
Binzy_Boi@lemmy.cato New to Lemmy@lemmy.ca•How do you search for posts but only within one community?7·1 month agoIt’s a little odd. Click the search icon on the top right of the screen. Put in the search query there, but in the community dropdown menu, search for the community you wish to make the search exclusive to.
Hope it helps.
Just lemmy.ca yeah. My system uses the correct timezone for me, but when I check the date of posting by hovering over the indicator of how long ago the post was made, it just gives me the time in GMT.

Binzy_Boi@lemmy.caOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How can I play videos downloaded from my computer on a TV without network connectivity features?31·2 months agoI think you’re misunderstanding, the TV’s firmware literally states that it can only be used for photos. I tried accessing both webm and mp4 to try my luck, but nothing.
Binzy_Boi@lemmy.caOPto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How can I play videos downloaded from my computer on a TV without network connectivity features?1·2 months agoOh! Is Roku something you can get separately? I always thought it was just a built-in OS on newer TVs.
Binzy_Boi@lemmy.catoLemmy.ca's Main Community@lemmy.ca•Confused about FederationEnglish4·2 months agoImmediate thought that comes to mind is that you can follow the Lemmy and Pixelfed accounts from your Mastodon, which would give you some ease in accessing their posts via Mastodon, and then boost the posts from there.
Hope that helps a bit, tbf cross-platform interactions like this are something I have very limited experience with.
Binzy_Boi@lemmy.catoLemmy.ca's Main Community@lemmy.ca•Confused about FederationEnglish10·2 months agoNot entirely. While you can interact with content from other social platforms like Mastodon and PeerTube from Lemmy, federation is best experienced when you utilize platforms with similar use cases.
For example, the link aggregators (Reddit-likes) on the fediverse are Lemmy, PieFed, Mbin, and until recently, Lotide. Each of these platforms have similar looks and purpose with slight differentiation. While you can communicate with video streaming or microblogging like PeerTube and Mastodon respectively, it’s best to stay within the link aggregators and make a new account for those purposes.
To give an example with microblogging on the Fediverse, there’s also a number of options. Biggest one is Mastodon, but others include Misskey and it’s endless forks, Smithereen, Pleroma/Akkoma, Mitra, Threads, etc. all with their own interesting quirks. While they can interact with Lemmy and whatnot, their best interactions are going to be with similar-purposed platforms.
