I can’t speak on behalf of him, but all my old CD-ROM games from the late 90’s and early 2000s don’t work on Linux, even with Wine. I’d love to get them working one day, so I’m watching this thread

Basically, spying is one of YouTube’s most egregious problems, and one of the biggest reasons people like me want valid competition for it, and one of the biggest selling points of smaller competition like Peertube and Glomble. I don’t see Bilibili offering that, but just the competition itself might give YouTube the kick up the arse it needs to respect its users.
I’m kidding myself, at this point it feels like YouTube would keep abusing its userbase even if it wasn’t profitable, just for the sheer fun of it, but in an ideal world, this would solve a lot of problems.

I’ve heard of Billibilli. It’s great for pirated films and TV shows that you can’t get anywhere else.
I don’t really trust it to be much better at respecting privacy than YouTube, but at this point, I’d be surprised if it was any worse, and YouTube has been getting worse for lack of competition for over a decade now

Yes and no. You’re certainly right, most of Trump’s popularity comes from Russian propaganda, and far more institutional issues like underfunded education, the blind eye to the Southern states after the Civil War, leftover Red Scare paranoia, and rampant lobbying.
That being said, using the disease metaphor, I think of Trump as more of a “complication” than a “symptom”. Something that’s drastically exacerbated a problem that was already there. Every other politician, even ones as corrupt and self-serving and dictatorial as him, all have to play the PR game and dress their rancid fantasies up as something that would benefit the public. Trump meanwhile, can transparently go back on every single promise, back stab his every last ally, out himself as perhaps the most prolific paedophile in human history, and order his fans into a street militia, and somehow, his supporters just accept it as part of his “brand”.
The US was probably always going in this direction, but I still think it wouldn’t have got here half as fast, maybe not even a third of the speed Trump’s been disassembling it without him. I don’t really know why Trump’s popularity was never affected by his vile actions until this year - they would sink any other public figure. Maybe it’s the right wing press playing defense for him at every turn, maybe it was his “joke candidate” status he earned back in 2015, maybe it’s his history in the public spotlight. Whatever it is, far right politicians around the world have tried to replicate what Trump has, and they’ve all failed. Because of that, I still think that the Big Beautiful Obituary will be well worth celebrating!

Thanke Edit: Oh, I guess it is on Steam now?? The trailers definitely had a Gog logo at the end but not a Steam logo. This was the game that convinced me to get Gog in the first place lol

The Croc remake is Gog exclusive (and on console) and I love it! It’s the first single player PC game that I’ve 100%'ed!

I didn’t actually know that - would there be any difficulties with different air nozzle shapes? I know my bike has a different air nozzle shape to my friend’s bike.

That’s good! I try to only drive once a week to stop my car from rusting on the inside, but my eventual goal would be to go into entirely cycling and public transport!

I refuse to pump my car tyres from petrol stations anymore because all the ones in my local area have started charging exorbitant prices. It always used to be free with petrol, then a few years ago it became 20p, but now it’s randomly shot up to £1.50. WHY??
You can buy devices that pump your car tyres up for you too. They tend not to last very long, so they’re not exactly “one time” purchases, but they’re far more cost effective than doing it at stations nowadays.!

Pretty recently I stopped watching Oneyplays. They were a Let’s Play/comedy channel in the same vain as Game Grumps and TheRunawayGuys, and they got me through some really hard times including COVID.
They were always kind of risque, but I assumed they knew their jokes were edgy, and not to be said in the real world. (to be fair, that is true with a lot of the old members)
For the last year or two though, most of the best members have left or aren’t on half as much as they used to be, and they’ve been doubling down on their controversial jokes. Everything’s “cuck this, soy that, estrogen the other” and half the “jokes” are just homophobic and racial slurs that they have to censor out afterwards. Even if you have a thick skin to that kind of stuff, it’s just so repetitive and unfunny now.

They left the UK to because it’s too woke and not corrupt enough (their own words)

Interestingly, Argentina have recently expanded their claim to the South Sandwich Islands and the UK’s theoretical claim of Antarctica. They don’t have any justification for it, they simply think they can get away with it as long as they claim victimhood if they don’t get it.
Sounds like Lemmy’s already shaping up to compete with Reddit!
OK I’m kidding - I think you’re kind of right, Lemmy can get that sometimes, but much like Reddit, it’s only really on the bigger communities that you always see on the front page, smaller ones are pretty chill in my experience.
I guess it depends on what you’re seeing hostility towards, but I will also say that with Lemmy’s status as an open source social media trying to compete against the likes of Reddit and Facebook, I find that the people here are naturally more protective of it from the sort of thing you’ll see on other sites. Also because of Lemmy’s status, it also attracts a LOT of political discussion, which has always been the most likely thing to descend into hostile crap flinging.
Oh, I should also mention, please just block the whole entire .ml instance. I can guarantee that it will improve your Lemmy experience and your mental health. I did it in my first few days here, and I sometimes forget just how bad it was before I did block it!

I’ve said it before, but I really don’t get the GTA VI hype. The last Grand Theft Auto game being released over a decade ago isn’t any guarantee that the next one will be amazing - Duke Nukem, Metroid, Overwatch and Star Fox are examples of that. Also, anyone who’s been paying attention to the direction Rockstar games has been going for the last 5+ years would be pretty worried about how this game will actually turn out. A lot of stuff that used to be earned with in-game currencies in GTA online are only buyable with real money now. Their employee track record is horrible… Hearing about Rockstar not producing discs for their game doesn’t surprise me. Maybe GTA VI will “crash the industry” and all the things these YouTubers are saying, but it would be on status alone at the moment, not because we know this is going to be a great game.

Yeah, Aardman are very much still stop motion (with a few tiny cheats, the stadium audience in Early Man and the sea in Pirates on an Adventure with Scientists).

Honestly, I think it’s massively significant. For a start off, that’s 20 million people, the population of Chile, in one quarter. That’s a lot of people regardless of how you slice it.
But more to the point, Meta services - Facebook especially - have reached a point of cultural impact where anyone who doesn’t have them can’t be talked into getting them anyway. Plus, they’re useful messaging services too, because everyone else uses them. Their popularity has become self-fulfilling. The idea of Meta losing more users than it’s gaining at all has been frankly unthinkable until recently.

The Secret Show - this old British cartoon about secret agents that would go on exciting missions and such! I swear that oversimplified corporate art style took inspiration from The Secret Show!

Well, the same kind of WAS said about post-WWII Germany. It was joint-colonised for half a century and ceased to exist as a single independent state until 1989, and even then, German reunification was pretty controversial

Didn’t Minecraft overtake Tetris years ago?
I’m pleasantly surprised to see Human Fall Flat here though. I don’t hear many people talk about it, but it has a seriously fun multiplayer
Thanks I’ll give it a go!
