I haven’t installed gentoo in 20 years. I still like arch for it’s glaring flaws. And I do like BSDs ports etc. I probably should go through a gentoo install again to see how it changed. Last time I ran it. Was on a first generation Pentium.

I’ve run arch for years as well. It happens nearly yearly. I’ve had updates break completely several times. Partial updates. That required significant manual intervention. Etc Etc Etc. Meanwhile my Debian and fedora systems haven’t had a hitch in years.
You don’t even have to use the aur are to have breaking changes. Most recently they changed how vlc was packaged. And broke it causing a lot of problems for users.

Eldritch@piefed.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Do Democrats have a Zohran Mamdani problem?English3·11 days agoI should have been more specific. They don’t buy them television stations, newspapers etc etc etc. Air america, the closest thing they ever had went belly up because no one listened. And what most conservatives slur as msdnc. Is a solidly right wing Channel. More likely to actually hurt a good candidate and then help.
The money Democrats take in every 4 years, is chump change. Republicans and their allies spend that much or more every year.

Eldritch@piefed.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Do Democrats have a Zohran Mamdani problem?English3·11 days agoAnd it needs to be said Fox News is hyperpartisan LOL. Just to drive your point home further. Fortunately I was able to get my parents out of the cable racket. Not that they can’t get the same misinformation elsewhere. But it’s great to not have a one stop sewage dump in your home.
We did the same for my mother’s step mother under the cover of her retirement funds running low and cable being costly. She loved fox news. Would have it on all the time when we were over. I would go on walks to keep from snapping and constantly correcting everything on it. She still finds stuff from time to time now. But it’s usually AI slop voice story time on YouTube. But she has improved.
Part of it is the incessant repetition. Even seeing something with your own eyes. If everyone around you disagrees eventually you doubt yourself. Unless is something you encounter daily to break the spell.
Eldritch@piefed.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Do Democrats have a Zohran Mamdani problem?English7·11 days agoStates like missouri. Outside our two Urban cores. There are plenty of counties and towns where Democrats are never on the ballot. And it’s not for lack of people capable of filling the jobs. Even on the outskirts of Kansas City here, it is not unusual to see Republicans running unopposed. Democrats honestly just stopped trying or caring. And so did a lot of low information voters here. Yes voting for Republicans absolutely is voting against their interests most of the time. But Republicans are the only ones that show up or seem to care.
Part of that is the copious funding through fashy bourgeoisie. Democrats don’t have a similar benefactor. Instead actually getting a lot of their donations from small donors. But the national party is so selfish and detached. Most of that money never sees a red state.
Eldritch@piefed.worldto politics @lemmy.world•Do Democrats have a Zohran Mamdani problem?English2·11 days agoHaha honestly. I didn’t really even read the second paragraph well. No worries.
Though while many here are too indoctrinated and misinformed to ever consider voting for a Democrat. Hell many never even have had democrats running for county and local offices. So I don’t blame them for being skeptical only ever seeing Democrats showing up for statewide office. But don’t mistake that for love of Republicans.
If there were organized local support and recruiting pushing recognized viable local candidates in many of these small towns. Democrats and Republicans would take notice. There definitely are a few wild dumbasses everywhere that are solid Trump fans. But even plenty who vote Republican feel embarrassed by the party. Just slightly less abandoned by it. Because they at least make the superficial effort to seem like they’re interested where Democrats have largely written the state off.

Eldritch@piefed.worldto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Watched a video about Debian and now I am not sure is the best for me.English403·11 days agoIf gaming is your main goal. Bazzite or similar should likely be your first target. If you want a more desktop experience. I’d probably recommended vanilla mint. LMDE and Debian are great. But LMDE is a side project, that gets a bit less support and updates. And Debian is about stability over cutting edge anything.

Eldritch@piefed.worldto politics @lemmy.world•President Trump is only deploying troops to blue regions when most of the dangerous cities are in red statesEnglish2·12 days agoNope. Our blue urban core is sliced 6 ways like a pie. Each slice extending far far into rural areas. Effectively taking away our ability to have any state representation. And they’re getting ready to soup it up further.
They’re RFK’s people after all.
