Agreed. 12.5 bar seems like a lot. But if it was managed via either physical means (clamp) or hydraulic (like mineral oil or something else nonreactive and incompressible), it wouldn’t be nearly as bad.

I’ve seen this before, and it’s a paragon of how to explain and demonstrate mechanical concepts.

This particular elevator might be more sensitive than most, but this a thing for real. The earthquake sensor can get tripped by excess motion, and shut the unit down.
