  • How do I put this, the fact that a platform may be used by unsavory characters in some specific capacity and context does not affect normal people who use it to communicate with friends - which is what chat apps were designed to do. People use discord to talk to their friends while playing games. They use WhatsApp, signal, telegram and so on to text with friends. At least that’s the primary usage. Now if one were to venture out into the wild and start engaging with strange animal fuckers in obscure channels etc, that is something that doesn’t play into the average user experience.

  • So one’s friends become zoosadists - whatever that is - if they’re chatting via discord?

The argument that there’s creeps using a platform is moot if you’re using it to communicate with your friends. Which is what people do. It’s so weird to me, like, the same can be said about Signal etc etc but nooooo, there it’s only the good ones chatting. Get outta here with this shit.

  • I wouldn’t say they’re mutually exclusive, way I see it, it’s more that there’s facts and then there’s the way people feel about facts. For example, it shouldn’t matter how people feel about the situation in Gaza, whether one is sympathetic towards one side or the other etc. There are facts about what is happening, who is doing it etc that cannot and should not be ignored. The greatest propaganda machine that has ever existed is tirelessly working trying to sway public opinion and it’s working. That’s why I hate such fucking stupid memes, fuck that girl and her condescending look, keeping quiet is complacency. If you think it doesn’t matter what a random idiot online thinks, next thing you know the world is full of random idiots and they control the narrative, and all of a sudden what you thought was a perfectly reasonable position is now a fringe conspiracy theory and Joe Rogan is fair and balanced. Don’t look far, how do you think the US ended up with two far right parties?

I’ve noticed a trend lately - not sure how far back this goes - but it appears to me that aspects of the Greek civilization are very often attributed to the Romans and mentions of the Greeks are often reduced to derogatory memes (like how easy it is to be Socrates because there was only a bunch of people alive at the time and other such bs) and of course let’s not forget how gay everyone was (as if that’s a bad thing but whatever). Couple that with misconceptions about Alexander the great and how he was supposedly a Slav and Macedonias weren’t Greek blah blah, the fact that the Turks are trying to claim that everything that now lies in modern day Turkey is “theirs” etc etc, the claims from Christians around the world that Christian ideas are the basis of the western civilization and morality in general as if they didn’t just appropriate everything from past religions and belief systems… Anyway rant over.

  • You think him fleeing to Russia is inconsistent? It seems to me that the organizations he’s exposed are the sort of outfits that would murder someone like him, so in order to stay alive I don’t know what other choices he would’ve had.

Agree on Greta btw, but to continue with the same example, I would say that killing a little girl is less likely, because it would create a martyr. And if she were ever in danger I wouldn’t hold it against her if she chose to disappear somewhere. She’s already done more than enough.

My point being, I don’t necessarily see the difference, and I’m a bit confused at the apparent hesitation to label Snowden a hero. Tempted to assume that the smear campaign is working even in these circles.
