No way! TIL. I nad no idea the word “wek” comes from a brand name.
TBH, yeah, that’s what I consider the point of my life - amusing myself until death. Whatever I do will not matter in 100, 1000 or 1000000 years which is all just a blip in the scale of the universe. So basically, I’m just trying to have fun and help other people have fun. Of course I realize that I’m incredibly privileged to live a life where I don’t have to worry about too much and I can think about fun and not surviving. I experienced difficult periods in my life and the answer to this question was much, much harder back then.
I find this interesting but somehow I’m still not sure whether I get it right after reading the article. I don’t know if it’s something wrong with the article or my English comprehension skills. Anyway, here’s what I get from this: so the (grand)parent’s of young gay boys took them to Hooters hoping to reinforce their masculinity and heterosexuality. But the waitresses were so friendly and understanding that they actually ended up reinforcing their real sexual orientation instead. Is that correct?
Haha, of course not to you but I’m sure it does to some.
BTW, what do you consider good shoes? Any recommendations? I really struggle with this. For the colder and wetter part of the year I usually wear Salomon trail runners and I love their all-terrain, all-weather properties. They have one weak spot though - the heel counters wear out well before anything else in the shoe which overall seems rather indestructible. How did they fuck this up?!
But for the summer… I literally haven’t found a shoe which would be suitable for very long walks in various terrains and weather conditions and would be also breathable and light.
I want to second this. I know it sounds crazy but walking has changed my life.
Exactly the same for me. I was worried people will not get it but it has never been a problem for almost 2 years now.
I would say NixOS might be even more cultish. I am a part of that cult.
Is it even possible to not care at this age though? At this point school and interacting with your peers is a vast majority of your life. I don’t think I have ever seen a kid being bullied every day at school and not caring. How can you not care if you’re scared?
I guess it is possible as you get older, more mature and closer to adulthood. But for a kid in a primary or middle school? Kinda hard to imagine for me.
If I’m actually reading with the goal of thorough understanding then it will take as long as reading it aloud or longer. I can still skim through the text faster, but I will understand less of it.
The Wikipedia article on subvocalization has a section on speed reading. It seems that subvocalizing can in fact limit the reading speed.
This is not a good explanation because as someone already pointed out a lot of (most?) people do “read the words aloud in their head”. For me, I often even make tiny moves of my tongue and larynx - see subvocalization.
Literally the point of money is to exchange it for something.
Excellent explanation. Saving this for discussions with friends.
For me the reason is that I just feel better eating less carbs. I feel less energy swings, I don’t get sleepy after the meal. But eating actually low carb (say <50 g daily) is just very inconvenient to me as I really don’t like cooking and meticulous meal planning. Well, and carbs are often fucking delicious. So in the end I eat pretty normal but I do avoid carbs whenever it doesn’t require too much effort.
I get quite a lot of cravings and eating random stuff (like mentioned butter) between the meals is quite common for me. But on the other hand I really like physical activity and I’m pretty good at keeping a rolling estimate of my calories and macros. I use that to compensate for weird stuff I’ve eaten during cravings. I will adjust my next meal (or all the meals next day) to be lighter, I will go for additional 10km walk or run, stuff like that. In the end I’m able to keep my calorie balance in slight surplus which works out quite well since I’m strength training too. Occasional cut resets the situation when my weight gets too high. As for macros, I’m eating a lot of protein, and trying to keep carbs relatively low, although usually it’s probably not really in the proper “low carb” territory. I also eat vegetables and fruits regularly. I think I’m keeping pretty much perfect weight. BMI is kinda high but that’s due to muscle mass.
Yeah, I’m pretty sure I could. I never did that because I have enough reason and willpower. But eating a bit of butter by itself as a “snack” is something I do sometimes and I’m sure I could eat a lot more if I didn’t control myself.
Man, this would not work for me. I’m always willing to eat butter.
Yes! I actually couldn’t resist reading it again when posting it.
This is what always comes to my mind when someone mentions Enlightenment: https://web.archive.org/web/20230424121033/https://what.thedailywtf.com/topic/15001/enlightened. Might provide some answers too.
I mean, I guess it’s kinda hard to say what exactly OP means without more details. It could be an incel who wants romantic a relationship but completely misunderstands women. But it could be also just a normal person wanting a sexual relationship and not knowing how to start one.
