I figured it out in 12 guesses!

Luckily the animals in the box I tried first weren’t valid options, even when I’d heard of them over this one.

5·6 days agoI usually download Eurovision, as the politics isn’t new… Just more apparent.
Maybe find a Eurovision community and ask about alternate viewing methods? I’m sure there are other ways to watch live, which if you’ve got a gathering is the way to do it.
And sadly still currently are in much of it.

1·11 days agoAye, only Protestantist Christianity (if it can be called that) and mormonism are worse.
The True Church of our Lord Father is Ethiopian Orthodoxy.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Black men dating Asian women: where is the real conversation about racism, family pressure, and emotional risk?English
1·11 days agoThere’s a surface level understanding that racism is bad.
But that’s seen as having no impact on holding strong, negative, stereotypes about other ethnicities and cultures.
And tends to be, in many cases followed up with “it’s not a prejudice/racism, it’s a fact!” =(
Sadly there’s a lot of anti-African, anti-South East Asian, anti-Japanese & Korean, anti-Turkic, antisemitic, sentiment floating around in general in the PRC.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Black men dating Asian women: where is the real conversation about racism, family pressure, and emotional risk?English
131·12 days agoWhite man who lived in China here chiming in.
The racism, or at least prejudices and a lack of understanding that cause racism, are very real.
Asia benefited from being near the top of the racist hierarchy of lies that Europeans instituted in the 19th century and also mostly learn about Black people from Hollywood films. (There’s also a really odd trend of New Right and crypto-fash talking points getting popular and spread around Chinese social media.)
In China at least, dating is seen as valid only in the path to marriage, and family and kids is an expected and socially impressed upon goal. To the point where plenty of women in China have kids they don’t want because of familial and social pressure.
At the same time, Asian society is very colourist which combined with having ingested the racist hierarchy somewhat and only really knowing Black people and culture from Hollywood isn’t a great start.
Rounding it off, I China at least is a desire for in group marriage. Foreigners are seen as a risky choice, who could leave and don’t share the same cultural values (regardless of the truth of it).
White people get more of a benefit of a doubt, but there’s still pressure against a Chinese-White relationship. I’ve heard of plenty of families putting pressure that ens inter-ethnic relationships, and there is definitely more pressure against Chinese-Black relationships. (Both cases also, sexistly, exacerbated when Chinese women, foreign man.)
Don’t think this is anything new or not know, sadly.
If the family is supportive, things work a lot better - unsurprisingly. But with Asian value of family, if the family are openly against it, it’s very unlikely to work out.

Until a bunch of unknowns and uncertainty are added because no-one knows the future.
And they almost always assume that their actions won’t lead to a decline in users, too.

The PRC days off are appalling in comparison. And the previous comment didn’t even mention make up days.

51·22 days agoGenerally they’re not, provided they can keep it low key.
And since within the PRC it’s quite easy to fire people, and courts and settlement is about how much 面子 you can make the company lose without pissing off local authorities vs. the 关系 and pressure they can bring to bear to have you drop it there’s not much to be done.
“ask” that people do overtime, and then fire them for not being a team player, or downmote them into a stressful deadend if they don’t take the voluntary overtime.
I appreciate the choice made over X-ray fish, Xantops, and Xerus.
Going hard, and I wonder what other letters have.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What would the next pres of USA have to do to gain back trust for America? Hold a televised event saying the last person was just a fuck up?English
28·24 days agoNo, the age of America is over.
The Trump preaidencies aren’t a radical break from the past, he’s just an unveiling of it’s darkest, ugliest, impulses and the logical conclusion of its ideals.
Maybe European mainstream leaders can convince themselves to get back into bed with US imperialism, as we benefit from it so much, but US in the eyes of the people never recovered post Iraq II, and across the whole world the US is now primarily seen as the demagogic bully that it is.
The US must learn to get along with its neighbours and treat other nations and people with respect.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is society at large okay with euthanasia for pets but not for humans?English
2·25 days agoSuicide only stopped being a crime in many parts of the world recently… Euthanasia is much larger step beyond that.
Let’s give things time.
Other guy did a good job on the main points, but I’ll add something I saw in a study on a kind of bird in the US:
The birds realised cigarette butts had an antibacterial effect, and made efforts to collect and use cigarette butts in their nest building for eggs and chicks.
Learning and making use of novel materials.
I think you’ve focused on the extraordinary conditions of the protagonists, and ignored the features of the world for normal people.
Most people do not battle their pokémon regularly.
Pokémon are partners, not slaves - and the people who treat their pokémon as objects are consistently bad and harmful of society. And you’ll note that this is an area that villainous teams focus on.
There is a lack of poverty, healthcare is free, education is free, and there isn’t hunger or homelessness.
Society works to support each other without the profit motive. Except for those who push into competitive battling, and criminals.
The thousands of years old tradition from non-Abrahamic Persia, (in fact a proto-IE region with shared religious rites with Slavic, Celtic and Germanic Europe), predating not only the splits of Christianity into Eastern Orthodox and Other, but of Christianity actually existing, doesn’t show it was a Pagan tradition?
What else do you call non-Abrahamic religious rites?
(And apparently new evidence has since backed up Bede’s account of Pagan Oestra in the British Isles, too.)

Sulphuric Acid acts on trousers and carpets. Wooden desks seem remarkably immune.
Found out after getting an actual chemical and chemistry set from a deceased relative. Parents didn’t check what was in it, just “chemistry is educational, good he’s learning”.
I was either dropping magnesium or potassium into a beaker of sulphuric acid as both of them were in the set too. And I was either a butterfingered lummox, or the act of dropping the metal into unbalanced the beaker knocked it over and the sulphuric acid cascaded onto my jeans eating through them and making my leg itchy, and bubbling the carpet into a stinky white then grey foam. I can still picture-ish that sight; and I’m normally not very visually minded, a testament to the deep impression the experience left on me.
Was much more sensible after that: just burning magnesium and chucking potassium into tub of water in the garden like you do in Chemistry class from time to time.
