Honestly with all the stuff going on right now with laws and the constitution being violated on the federal level the real question is who would enforce that he can’t run again? Sure some blue states might take him off the ballot but he probably wasn’t going to win those ones anyways. He has both the supreme Court and Congress on his side right now and if he still has that in four years I could easily see him running again with no one to really stop him.
My guess was that it wasn’t boosting Palestinian content but wasn’t suppressing it like a lot of other American platforms and news outlets tended to do.
I mean I don’t know a ton about SQL but one thing to keep in mind about SSNs is they were not originally meant to be used for identification but because we have no form of national id and places still needed a way to verify who you are people just started using SSNs for that since it’s something everyone has and there wasn’t really a better option. So now the government has been having to try and make them work for that and make them more secure. The better solution would be to make some form of national id that is designed to be secure but Republicans and people like Musk would probably call that government overreach or a way to spy and track people.
Yeah I definitely still have problems with remembering to do it, especially if I get an idea when I’m not at a place where it’s easy to note the idea down. But even having a few things on there can be enough and sometimes help with jogging my memory about other things I wanted when it comes closer to an event.
I have the same problem when I need to come up with things on the spot. So instead I keep a list that I add ideas I get for things I want over time. That way if someone asks I can show them that and I don’t have to think on the spot about what I want.
I think it depends on what problems you’re talking about as well. A lot of the problems I faced with Linux was with programs not working or certain features not being supported. Where as with windows the problems tend to be more of bugs or weird behaviors from the os itself. Sure you can say reinstalling isn’t a good solution as it’s annoying to do but if it makes the problem go away it is a solution. Meanwhile on Linux if a program isn’t supported and isn’t popular enough to have people figure out how to make it work it just doesn’t work and there is no work around other than either trying to figure it out yourself or just using windows. Sure you can maybe argue that that’s an experience difference as if you had experience with getting programs to work the figure it out yourself part wouldn’t be hard but if anything I think that shows that it’s not just a different set of experience but also generally requires more experience to be proficient with Linux versus being proficient with Windows. Although that probably comes down more to what you consider as being proficient.
The problem with that is there is no centralized website you go to for Lemmy. The closest thing to that would be the various apps you use for Lemmy so my question would be where would you put this quiz? I think when people talk about joining a server being hard it’s just hard for people used to a centralized social media to get used to the idea that one social media platform can be made up of a bunch of different websites and it becomes overwhelming to even figure out where to go. They’re very used to just going to reddit’s website so if they can’t just look up Lemmy and click the first link to join it’s gonna be too complex.
I mean atleast in terms of the troubleshooting I’ve had to do it’s much easier on Windows. Sure it can be more finicky but if I have a problem 99% of the time I google it and find someone else having the same problem and worst case scenario atleast reinstalling Windows fixes the problem. When I gave Linux a try the amount of times I googled something and either found an out of date solution that didn’t work or was just told that that doesn’t work and you can’t do that was annoying enough that I gave up and went back to Windows. If Linux works for you that’s great but acting like the problems with Linux are just people not being used to it is wrong.
This is why a new party needs to be built from the ground up, starting with local races that are uncontested or use ranked choice voting already.
The problem there is I think the legislature there actually went against the President to stop him. In America the legislature is happy to go along with Trump.
Well considering a lot of the discussion on here is around tech and specifically Linux that doesn’t surprise me. Very online tech people usually aren’t that interested in sports.
The real interesting question to me is how do you even really prevent something like this from happening? If every elected official decides the law doesn’t matter who is left to enforce it on them? I feel like the only real options are the military stepping in when bad things are happening but that’s a very slippery slope to normalize that or having powerful unions that can actually lead general strikes when these kinds of things happen. But atleast in the US unions have been beaten down so much that that isn’t really an option so what is left really?
Would be nice but congress is Republican controlled and for any court related stuff it could just go up to the supreme Court and be ruled Trump’s way. Or just flat out ignored cause who is gonna stop him if he just ignores court rulings.
The problem is a lot of people on Lemmy focus on blaming the voters first and don’t really connect that issue with the DNC’s failures. A lot of voters didn’t come out to vote because of how bad Kamala and the DNC were in this election. So focusing on blaming voters is just focusing on the outcome rather than focusing on the actual cause of the issue. You can focus on both issues but if your solution is that voters are bad and need to be shamed rather then the DNC needs to improve they’re not gonna win any elections unless they get lucky again like they did in 2020 with covid and how unpopular Trump was then.
I mean I feel like depending on what kind of problems they started off with ChatGPT probably could just solve simple first year programming problems. But yeah as you get to higher level classes it will definitely not fully solve the stuff for you and you’d have to actually go in and fix it.
I think that’s definitely a big reason for non-swing state voters but I do also think how hard it can be to vote in some states is a pretty bit barrier too. If you look at turnout data by state theres a reason a lot of the red states with the more strict laws have lower turnout compared to my home state of Oregon which isn’t a swing state yet still can get 75% turnout in 2020 even though it’s a solid blue state, cause we do full vote by mail.
You’re right there after looking into it, he didn’t endorse either but he did speak at the RNC which for a lot of people looked like an endorsement but is a little different. The quote of we can win with or without you was from a meeting the teamster’s president had with Kamala. Even if it was in response to him speaking at the RNC or showing some support to Trump that’s definitely not how you get someone to back you and in my opinion shows the attitude the Dems had to a lot of people this cycle. This idea of either you vote for us or we’ll win without you cause you have no other good choice. That attitude is not one that makes people excited to go out and stand in a 3 hour line to vote for you in a swing state. And if they keep relying on this you either vote for us or you get stuck with the bad option of Trump they’re only gonna win whenever Trump is in office and actively doing really really bad things.
Yeah that would be nice but the only way I see that happening is if a Bernie like politician manages to win the primary and the election and reshapes the party like what Trump did. But reshaping it in that way is gonna face a lot more pushback from donors than compared to what Trump did. So there’s always a chance but it feels pretty unlikely without changes to election and campaign finance laws.
Sure the courts are doing a good job at pushing back for now but all it will take is some of these cases going to the supreme court for that to change. Both Trump and Vance have already openly said that they shouldn’t have to follow judges’ orders and seem to be building a case for openly defying the judiciary that’s justified in the eyes of their supporters. And this is all within the first month of him being in office, it’s only gonna get worse from here and by the time the next election comes around who knows what the situation will look like but I can easily see a future where he runs for election again and no one is left to stop him other than attempts by blue states.
