Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Did you drink alcohol when you were younger than me?English
1·1 day agoI drank once when I was 17 but didn’t really care for it (rootbeer and vodka, not great, not terrible).

1·1 day agoFair point, even with guns there’s spall that can get you if the bullets hit something hard, but the fact that we don’t use this kind of design kinda highlights that it’s not worth the trade off of visibility vs protection.

1·2 days agoWould recommend! If you want an inexpensive folding bike check out the Tern BYB or Zizzo’s offerings if you’re in the US. If you want something like a Brompton, they’re still expensive but check out brompnots like Takachia, Cranston, Mint, etc.
I have a Priority Folder, it’s a little pricier, but it has a belt drive and internally geared hub, so it’s significantly lower maintenance than most other bikes.

1·6 days agoYeah, my bike commute is usually faster and e-bike is always faster because I don’t have to fuck with parking: My bikes fold up under my desk too, so I don’t even worry about bike racks (which is good because my building doesn’t really have one).

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•(serious) What would we be losing in a world where most people didn't own a car? Please read the OP before posting.English
1·7 days agoI’m not saying it would be practical in your case, but you could definitely carry 6 weeks of groceries on a cargo bike (electric would be better given the load though).
Hell, you might even be able to do that on a regular bike. I can fit at least 60 liters of groceries into my Portola (a compact folding e-bike), and that isn’t even including the top rear cargo rack. In an actual mid-sized cargo bike, you could probably fit like 2+ months of groceries.
If you don’t have a safe path to get there though, it doesn’t really matter how much you can fit onto any bike. In your case, you’d need a motorcycle.

1·7 days ago4 miles is nothing on a bike, 30 isn’t too crazy either. I think people misunderstand just how far you can travel on a bicycle. Having the infrastructure to do it is another matter though, there’s some super dangerous country roads where it’s 50+mph with no shoulders.
