In Celcius water boils at exactly 100°C, and you don’t have to round, and 50°C is exactly half the boiling point of water.

Yes, Celsius users are waterpilled: the whole system is based on the temperature at which water freezes and evaporates at 1 atm pressure.

(You’re just fucking with us right? Like Celsius is has a coarser base unit, and the range applicable to human temperatures are not such pretty numbers, but you can’t be seriously thinking Fahrenheit makes more sense for when we talk about water?)

  • The 1st myth is that watson and crick figured out the solved the double helix by themselves. The 2nd myth is that they stole Rosalind Franklin’s work and screwed her over. Both are misconceptions propagated by pop culture and Watson’s own embellishments…

Franklin was a great crystallographer who contributed many key insights into the characteristics of the double helix. There were many brilliant scientists working on this problem at the time pushing technology to their limits to gain every piece of information we could about DNA’s structure.

Franklin was a big name in her own right, and to say that Watson and Crick could figure out the double helix by stealing picture 51, whereas Franklin could not, implies that she couldn’t figure out her own data, and is frankly insulting to her intellect.

This article explains it much better than I ever could: https://www.nature.com/articles/d41586-023-01313-5

  • No sure about that. While he was alive he could do things/get stuff done to him which would get reported in the news. Getting poisoned by Novichok, getting arrested in a Russian airport, disappearing and reappearing in an Arctic gulag – all of these things show up in the news cycle, giving us constant reminders of the how bad it is in Russia. Now that he’s a martyr, I guess his name will disappear from headlines until maybe the anniversary of his death.
