3·8 days agoKanji abolition has been attempted once, but lead towards failure since the consensus is that it should remain due to that being around for more than a millennia & ingrained in Japanese culture.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is importing stuff from abroad free from sales tax?English
32·13 days agoI have a JP Nintendo account and payment method (on the eShop you can use gift cards & only reads JP CC). You use forwarders to acquire it at your own expense (shipping and customs value).

52·13 days agoThe Japanese version is only region locked in the sense of not being able to change the language & region nor being able to sign in using a foreign Nintendo account (it has to be a JP one). Cartridges from abroad (US, UK) do work but will automatically translate the UI into Japanese (if its supported).

Games@lemmy.world•Is the Ocarina of Time remake going to have Master Quest?English
23·24 days agoEspecially the Water Temple on N64, you end up fucking around with menus A LOT just to put on and take off the iron boots since it’s an aquatic dungeon. Also, a lot of points on playing the ocarina to change water depth are unmarked in N64 (but marked on 3DS) from what I saw on the latest gameplay of the remake: they retained the markings from the 3DS version hence making navigation easier.

Casual Conversation@piefed.social•Are you obliged to tip or can you refuse?English
21·1 month agoMost countries including the US impose income tax (so no matter where you go, it’s the same since income tax exists in a lot of countries except a few like UAE, Monaco, Bahamas). But, minimum wages are different by country: it’s Fr. 25 ($30) per hour in Geneva (Switzerland) while it’s $2.13 per hour in Texas (USA).
Taxes deducted from one’s paycheck is by definition used to fund welfare, roads, schools, health care, etc. as a nation’s government need money for maintaning public infrastructure. How else do you have the highway (interstate) or how do hospitals stay operational? These things require government funding.
Do YOU think paying high taxes are worth funding schools, hospitals, roads in the US considering their condition? (Since I last heard they’re in rough condition in some areas as if they’ve been neglected).

21·1 month agoWhy are they so reliant on tips instead of the employer paying them? How much do they earn ONLY being paid by their employer after taxes? Consider that 7.25 USD an hour is before tax, what’s their take home money?

46·1 month agoMainly, that point is about the software a modern electronic car driven by a human is reliant on can get hacked by a hacker (as in them taking full control virtually but in reality they’re controlling someone’s vehicle).
