  • If i found a genie, one of my 3 wishes would be that reddit was viewed like Wikipedia. It should be a non-profit. I’d gladly donate to keep the servers up. I do that for Lemmy now.

If I want to know something, I’m either looking at Wikipedia for general information, or reddit for specific. The odds that someone else has asked the same question on reddit it weirdly high. Even Google acknowledged that there search results went to shit because of the blackouts. How did we let such a wealth of knowledge get caught up in profits.

I love Wikipedia. Even if it has flaws, it’s by far one of the best things we’ve created a humanity.

  • Sort of.

It’s been a few years since I read the books. Juliets story stays in the current time. The second main character starts in the past and slowly moves forward with each chapter. So his first chapter is X year, then the next is 3 months later, then a year, etc.

I don’t actually remember exactly where the first book stopped, I thought it stopped with the reveal of the other silos. But I could certainly be wrong.

  • The books are absolutely worth the read. One of my favorite series ever. Also, the only series that I felt lied to as a reader. What I mean by that is that I was hinted towards certain theories, but got tricked by the author. Not that he did lie, but the twists and real truth were very unexpected. I absolutely loved it.

This is spoiler-ish, but the sequel books follow another main character as well. Kinda switching between two viewpoints. So i assume the show will do the same. There are some changes from the books to TV but the author was very involved with the show and agreed with all the changes. He did an AMA on reddit before episode 1 aired. I’m very happy with this adaptation.

  • Yeah. I understand the trend. It makes sense. It’s not unreasonable.

I still hate it. I have a nice home theater and my wife STILL trys to turn on subtitles. For me, I can’t not read them. Even in English with a good sound system. My brain just focuses on subtitles anyway. Movies and TV are a visual medium. I want to watch the movie. I want to see the color choices, the framing of the characters, the cool CGI. With subtitles, I only SEE half the movie. I have less time to process each seen.

So yeah, same. If I wanted to read, I’d read a book.
