OpenAI could direct anyone working at Astral to insert whatever they want into uv, ruff or ty, without any regard to the needs or desires of the wider community. Or just drop working on it entirely.

Sure, these tools are open source and can be forked. But to do that successfully you’ll need to replace everything that Astral currently provides these projects: expertise of core contributors, the time they have to actually work on it, and organisational skills to manage these projects.

This isn’t something you can do overnight.

It’s not gaslighting yourself to be concerned when a company as morally bankrupt as OpenAI becomes the steward of these tools.

To all the commenters pointing out this is probably a re-enactment or has been staged: it probably has been, but I would encourage allowing some whimsy into life and just enjoying the story and the pictures.

I think you’re overthinking it a bit. The pictures don’t have to be in the same order as the story. I’m reasonably confident the original poster has taken some creative liberties with the story.

Some cameras/camera apps do a bunch of post-processing to try and sharpen the image or account for motion. It could also be some other kind of post-processing and/or compression artefacts.

I’ve seen that kind of mangling happen before in digital photos and it doesn’t have to be due to gen AI.
