  • I think if you post someone else’s comic without adding anything to it, you deserve no attribution either. Pete is getting attention for something he didn’t do.

If it were Tumblr, he’d be the “I reblog this every time” comment at the bottom of the screenshot. If it were tiktok, he’d be the guy green screened in front of the comic pointing and saying nothing. And it were early internet, he’d be the guy downloading it from SomethingAwful and adding a watermark of his website.

But really, I don’t have a problem with Pete. The thing that irrationally bugs me is including him in the screenshot when the only content is the comic itself. BUT…whenever I see these, I assume it’s the person adding nothing who took the screenshot. It’s marketing…“please follow me on social media, I want to be an influencer”

  • I think it’s more of an evolution in the way we use computers than a problem. The original Office UI was made during a time of single monitor dominance and now dual monitors is the standard for companies.

My most-used applications for work at AutoCAD and Excel and it’s very rare I DON’T have them maximized. They both have ribbons but even if they didn’t, I can’t imagine using them in a small window. Really the only program I don’t run full screen is Notepad

  • I have all the stuff I use regularly on the first ribbon. I also run excel with the formula bar 3-lines tall. Common keyboard shortcuts were removed so there’s very little unused clutter

At work I use a 1920x1200 display and have never once thought “ugh I wish I could see 4 more rows” - but if I did, I’d just collapse the ribbon…
