I did see that and it looks cool, but is it actually a tented PCB, or is the tent part of the keycap sculpt?

I wish someone would make a nice tented unisplit like this with an actual ergo layout.
I wish there were more boards with solenoids
Neat! I like the keyboardio folks a lot, although their boards aren’t always what I’m personally looking for.
Sounds like, yes now Corsair owns Geekhack
They just put out a lot of mediocre products, mostly. Also they were hilariously rude to the creator of the MT3 profile (which is one of their signature accomplishments in the keyboard space)
Did Drop still own Geekhack? (In some ways Corsair acquiring Geehack would be the bigger story to me at least since Geekhack is one of the key places (especially excluding reddit) that interest checks and group buys are published.)
We need the Lemmy equivalent of fediblock so we can post this for everyone to defederate
You have to go out of your way to find keycaps that aren’t MX-styled. But you may want to double check the layout and particularly the size of the spacebars, shifts, and the keys in the bottom row. Some gamer boards have nonstandard layouts.
No disrespect to the blahaj admins at all (I’m on lemmy.blahaj.zone rigth now!) but safe spaces for queer folks aren’t automatically safe spaces for non-white folks and there’s a lot of historical pain and drama about that on the fediverse
Some shoes are able to be resoled/rebuilt by a cobbler when they wear down, but they have a more complex/handcrafted construction which means their price tag is higher, and of course it’s not free to have them resoled, so you don’t automatically save money by going this route.
Cannonkeys and Novelkeys have some good in-stock sets nowadays
Epistory is kind of fun. You may want to cross post to !ergomechkeyboards@lemmy.world
If you’re doing your own PCB, you could add splitkb tenting puck https://github.com/splitkb/tenting_puck
Defederation is an important tool and is part of what makes the fediverse work. In my experience, people who are strongly defederation averse are mostly either quite new to the fediverse or have the relative privilege of never having to really deal with bad actors especially en masse.
The more the merrier for the Fediverse and if you don’t like it,
join a smaller project or find one with the privacy policy that suites you.defederate
The good thing about decentralized platforms is that you don’t have to immediately cede the public square to corporate ownership or resign yourself to sharing space with the worst bad actors.
You can certainly get a functional mechanical keyboard on Amazon. If you haven’t used a mechanical keyboard at all and you want to try one out, I think buying a cheap gamer keyboard on Amazon and treating it as semi-disposable is quite reasonable.
If you want the ability to experiment with switches, look for one that has hotswap and cherry MX-style mechancial switches. If you want the ability to swap out for nicer keycaps, check and make sure the board uses a standard layout. Some consumer boards have unusually sized shift keys or space bars etc. that make them incompatible with many keycap sets.
Re: loud, this is also relative. Linear switches (red for lightweight ones, black for medium weight ones) will usually not be ultra loud, and you can also get “silent” switches, which have some dampening components.
It’s easy to find cheap fullsize boards with numpad and arrows. (It’s harder to find high end customs like this, though, as most enthusiasts prefer smaller boards.)
I got mine recently and have been playing a little bit of a lot of different stuff, but the thing I’ve put the most hours into has been Midnight Suns. I did not expect a Marvel game to my new favorite turn-based tactics deckbuilder, lol.
The stupid open world collectible part blows chunks, but the actual core gameplay is shockingly fun, if not perfectly tuned the way some deckbuilders are. The extremely weird lightweight high school dating sim / bioware relationship management aspect is very odd but produces some extremely funny interactions at times.
