  • The “born this way” trope seems to be something that the media pushes a lot, and it’s wrong. Being able frame queerness as being not-by-choice helps some people give themselves permission to be queer. Anyone who is gatekeeping your identity is not an ally. Your identity is yours to do with as you please. If you’ve always been ace and only now are realizing it, great, that’s yours to determine. If you’re deciding that your identity now is ace and previously was something else, it’s your prerogative. The ability to grow and change is powerful.

I think we’re pretty close to agreeing. When you differentiate between “need…for mental health reasons” and “need to survive”, it seems like you’re ignoring the issue of suicide and it’s connection to mental health.

If your takeaway from OP was about doing things for fun, then mine was how important fun actually is. Two sides of the same coin, I think, both very valid.

I hope that makes sense. I’m not really here for the competitive talking, I guess.

  • Reminds me of an actual anime I can’t remember the title of where a kid attends a farming school, and every episode is basically him having an ethical dilemma over the mistreatment and murder of animals and his conclusion every time is that the animals are too delicious NOT to kill, oh well, and he eats a big bowl of pork.

  • I think the tone deaf thing here is you telling trans people, who are being actively targeted by an increasingly fascist goverment and conservative media, that it’s not bad enough yet for them to leave.

Any person who wants to leave and has the means to leave should absolutely leave by whatever means, and your judgment of them is of no value.

If you have a problem with worldwide asylum quotas, maybe take that up with a foreign government or something. People who are just trying to survive and make the best decisions they can in an increasingly high-stakes situation should disregard everything you’ve said and continue doing whatever they want, and you should support their ability to do so.

It’s like saying that you can’t reason someone out of a belief or opinion that they didn’t reason themselves into. You can’t apply reason to subconscious processes and expect them to change in response. It’s been a valuable lesson for me to not try and quash my emotions with logic but to give them space to exist and process.
