more like a platform where the community is able to publish user-created games for people to play. Maybe the different instances could be different types of games (e.g. action, RPG, puzzle) or different languages/regions. For instance, something like Roblox and even Scratch is where people are able to make their own games and make it public so others can play (though for Scratch, it’s not just games).

Very cheap phones now have nice 120hz screens, decent processors for everyday use, very good battery life, nice build quality, and even okayish cameras. It’s really only the software that’s a bit bloated, but it’s (usually) removable (and you could always install a custom ROM)
Budgets phones from non-Chinese companies like Samsung and now Nothing/CMF are quite good too.
edit: when I mean build quality, I don’t mean metal/glass. Budget phones are made of plastic, but nowadays they have nice finishes, are quite durable, and are dust/water resistant.

sbird@sopuli.xyzOPto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do “flagship” smartphone chips go out of fashion after just a year?English131·5 days agoI find it weird that tech reviewers are hyping up 7 years of OS support by Samsung and Google (which is very good!) while simultaneously promoting upgrading to the newest phone every year (which, in my opinion, is quite wasteful)
sbird@sopuli.xyzOPto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do “flagship” smartphone chips go out of fashion after just a year?English5·5 days agoYeah, budget phones have gotten really good. That makes sense, the companies have a financial incentive to make the better phone than everyone else.
Kind of crazy that we mere humans have developed these super-advanced silicon wafers that can do millions of operations every second and we develop new, better ones every year.

sbird@sopuli.xyzOPto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Should I make my game top down or side scrolling?English1·15 days agosomething like hollow knight could be interesting…
sbird@sopuli.xyzOPto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Should I make my game top down or side scrolling?English1·15 days agoThink I’ll go with side-scrolling then. Thanks!
sbird@sopuli.xyzOPto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Should I make my game top down or side scrolling?English4·15 days agoNever made a game that’s isometric, so that would be equally, if not more, difficult than top-down.
sbird@sopuli.xyzOPto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Should I make my game top down or side scrolling?English1·15 days agook, I’ve edited my post to add a few more details about the game! It will be pixel art and will be a mix of exploration and puzzles, and possibly action (fighting the gods and their underlings). It will have lots of different references to ancient Greek myths and legends in the decorations, puzzles, etc.
sbird@sopuli.xyzto Apple@lemmy.world•I don't know who designed that... it didn't recognize me right away and I just couldn't find the buttons... #iOS26English1·15 days agoI’m on the beta 2, it’s still hard to read. My background has a very light sky with a dark tree. The buttons seem to adjust for the dark tree, meaning when the buttons are over the light sky (which is in the middle of the screen, where the buttons normally are…) it is unreadable! It’s better when the buttons are over the dark tree (still quite hard to read though), but that’s only when I have half swiped up…
Well those get taken down by the big corpos, not really the developer’s fault. Really, the fact that they are FOSS mean it’s much easier to fix issues as lots of different people can contribute, and where you mention apps that get taken down and formed again is only possible with FOSS apps (i.e. forks)
FOSS programs that don’t involve piracy are perfectly fine though (libreoffice, inkscape, kdenlive, linux, among many MANY others), they all work wonderfully
how can it both work by stealing stuff from the internet and not work? Does it work or not?
sbird@sopuli.xyzto Science Memes@mander.xyz•THE PERIODIC TABLE OF TAYLOR SWIFT👩🏼🔬🧪🧫🧬🔬English3·16 days agoWhy are there a bunch of elements with the same symbol? You can’t do that! Also, why do some of them have over 5 letters? It’s either one or two…they are also arbitrarily placed everywhere, maybe each group could be a different genre or topic? I am also bothered by the weird L shape, WHY???
sbird@sopuli.xyzto Apple@lemmy.world•I don't know who designed that... it didn't recognize me right away and I just couldn't find the buttons... #iOS26English2·17 days agoOccasionally, the notifications switch to have a more contrasty background to make it easier to read. But not always. Which is incredibly annoying!
sbird@sopuli.xyzto Apple@lemmy.world•I don't know who designed that... it didn't recognize me right away and I just couldn't find the buttons... #iOS26English5·17 days agoI’m also using the iOS 26 beta, when you swipe down from an app that’s light (e.g. a website) and have a dark lockscreen background then the notifications backgrounds can become unreadable since the lock screen background only appears when you finish the swipe down.
sbird@sopuli.xyzOPto Android@lemmy.world•Is it a good idea to get the Xperia XZ1 Compact as a secondary phone and install LineageOS?English1·17 days agoShould I install LineageOS 19 or the newer 21? Is 21 less stable or something?
I think they are confusing Microsoft Edge (the browser) and Bing (the search engine). You can see the Copilot icon in the top right, so it’s probably the Edge browser.
